This day 1986 a car load of us set off to watch the Boro away to Bradford at Leeds road

Due to Valley Parade being damaged fire damaged
We had lost our previous game 1-0 away to Oldham & in desperate needs of points to pull away from the wrong end of the 2nd division
Unfortunately this night match, 23rd April, went the same way as the Oldham game as we suffered another setback, though this game we scored, well courtesy of an OG when Oliver netted our goal in a 2-1 defeat

Bruce couldn't find any consistency with results & with two games remaining of which one is at home time is running out fast

Bruce's team

Phil Kite - Boro's 4th loaned keeper, playing in his 2nd & final loan game fromSouthampton
Brian Laws
Tony McAndrew
Tony Mowbray
Gary Gill - brought back in to the team after missing 6 games
Gary Pallister
Bernie Slaven
Colin Cooper
Gary Hamilton - wore 5 different shirt No's that season
Dave Currie - his final start for the Boro
Stuart Ripley - final game of the season, he was due to link up with the young England team for a tournament
Sub - Archie Stephens - an absence of 11 games it was his 1st game playing under Bruce, his final game in a Boro shirt was Willie Maddren's final game as manager, Archie replaced Stuart Ripley in the 2nd half

Drove over the Pennines for this game from South Manchester - nice evening weather wise - sat in a stand down the side with Boro fans to my right. Tony Mac got roasted by John Hendrie a good few times. Tony always give 100% but was carrying injuries and starting to show his age against a real quality winger. I was so glad we signed John Hendrie in 1990 and at his peak.

I couldn't believe that we had signed a player at the top of his game & a great player that wanted to stay, loved it here
He made his debut in the same game as Robbie Mustoe, another IMHO great, great signing by TODDY & the lacklustre John Wark, it just didn't work out here for Wark

Like Wenger I didn't hear it, I was more toward the cowshed end of the ground, away fans used to stand on an open terrace at the other end of the ground. Unacceptable if Boro fans were doing that.

Wasn't the original game going to be at Ordsall stadium in February but it was postponed because of snow?

Not sure why Leeds Road was used.

Looking at the date, it could have been that Bradford Speedway were at home that night. They used to lift the corners of the pitch so that the track could be used on saturday nights.
I may be wrong, but this may be the reason that it was moved.

Cheers Lemmy, never knew that

Was there, another sickner, but it was our 2nd visit there in weeks as we had walloped the terriers at Leeds rd. Played Football at Odsal for the town v Bradford boys and the return game at Central ave.

I was there too, but had forgotten Tony Mac was still playing then and certainly no recollection of Hendrie playing.
Christ that is a long time ago!
