At the holgate end, the ball comes across to an umarked Dave Currie who just needs to side foot it home to bring the scores level at 2-2, as it comes across & us fans wait for the ball to nestle in the back of the net & with one win & 5 draws in this calander year any point is a valuable point in our fight against relegation, then unfortunatly, Dave Currie takes his eyes off the ball at the wrong time & puts the chance to equalise wide of the goal & the chance to bring us level gone in a split second

I stand corrected, I actually thought Dave Currie if scored, would have brought the scores level at 2-2, but just found out the miss was in the 84th minute with the scores at 1-1, which would have put us 2-1 up, 3 minutes later Carlisle scored to seal the win
The boos around Ayresome Park were loud as the team walked off at the final whistle

The ball boy with his head in his hands towards the corner flag is still one of mates to this day. When I see him, usually in the Rugby Club, we always end up talking about his photo :D

I was in the Holgate right behind the goal. I could not believe he missed it. I said to my mate, it’ll be typical Boro to let one in now

That's quality, famous picture & the response from fans & those around the pitch
I was in the chicken run along my dad

Willie Maddren kept the same side for the visit of mid-table Carlisle. The Cumbrians had won four of their previous five games. An uneventful 1st half ended 0-0
Just before the hour David Mills hobbled off with a reoccurrence of his achilles injury, never to play another 1st team game for the Boro, Alan Roberts came off the bench.
With twenty minutes remaining Carlisle right back Paul Haigh put in a looping header from a deep cross that caught Kelham O’Hanlon hopelessly out of position, the ball floated over the keeper’s head & into the net. The goal seemed to stir Boro into action & with 10 minutes remaining we equalised, the ball dropped to Alan Roberts just inside the box & he sent a right foot drive into the corner of the net, 1-1
With 5 minutes remaining Archie Stephens burst through drew keeper Dave McKellar & neatly squared the ball to David Currie, somehow DC managed to put his shot wide of the open goal from only five yards
What an incredible miss, fans couldnt believe the miss
With only 2 minutes remaining Carlisle, fortunately still in the game started an attack when future player Don O’Riordan put in a cross into the Boro penalty area which United striker, Andy Hill, stooped low to head past O’Hanlon.
At the final whistle there were loud boos around the ground.
The miss summed up Boro’s season.
With the three teams below all losing the positions remained unchanged with the Teessiders remaining three points above the relegation places. Off the field, Chairman Alf Duffield threatened to quit if the team was relegated.
