On the 30th January a 1st Division fixture at home to Southampton & Kevin Keegan, Bobby Murdoch had seen enough of this talented, slim build, wirly blond haired winger making him the youngest Boro debutant at 17 years of age which was the age of Sam Lawrie who was the youngest before SB
It was to be Stephen Bells only appearences that season
The mighty Boro hadn't won a league game since the 26th of October & anchored at the foot of the table, while also just knocked out of the FAC at the expense of 2nd division QPR
The only change Bobby Murdoch made from the previous Saturdays 1-0 defeat away to Spurs was dropping Dave Shearer & handing the No10 shirt to Bell
Unfortunately this game went the same way as the 2 previous games when Kevin Keegan scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot
Desperate times on Teesside, the Boro since big Jack got us promoted & John Neals time as manager were at minimum a mid table top league team
We had suffered badly with the directors selling the clubs jewels & replacing with far less quality player, Heine Otto apart & for the 1st time since 74 we were struggling badly
I'd been going in the south terrace with my dad for a season then after abondoning the holgate so my mam & dad bought me a ST for my 21st
Bobbys team
Jim Platt
John Craggs
Ian Bailey
Colin Ross
Irving Nattrass
Tony McAndrew
Terry Cochrane
Heine Otto
Dave Hodgson
Stephen Bell
Bobby Thomson
Sub
Gary Mcdonald
Attendance - 12,693
