I was a 19 year old staying in halls of residence for Queen Mary's College, London. Having move down to live there in South Woodford about 6 months earlier.

I was probably playing snooker when the match was on. That is what I was doing a lot of evenings then.

I was probably complaining about the noise coming from the music room nearby. Where they future lead singer of Iron Maiden was rehearsing.

I had not met my first wife to be by then. That happened in October 1978.

I forgot to mention. This was only just a few weeks after we lost the Orient replay. Not too far away. I remember I was playing snooker that night. I was not a happy bunny when I was told the result.

John Neal gave Dave Brown, who was making his 4th appearence in goal, a run of 10 games to the end of the season to see if he, or Pat Cuff, wete good enough to challenge Jim Platt for the No1 Jersey, John Neal had given Pat Cuff a 10 game run in goal earlier in the season

Unfortunately neither fitted in John Neals plans as he opted to buy Jim Stewart from Kilmarnock in the summer to become our No1 keeper 😢
