And a return back to the club he left the mighty Boro for

Once big Jack announced he was leaving the club the Boro board moved & earmarked an upcoming exciting manager who was doing a good job in North Wales, the manager of Wrexham, John Neal, to take over the reigns from big jack & what a cracking appointment he was to be become

The Boro had faced Wrexham twice when John Neal was incharge, the league cup at AP in 1972 when the Boro won 2-0 & a rare defeat for the Boro when Wrexham beat us in an FAC 4th clash at the Racecourse ground

This day on his return wasn't to be a happy return for John Neal, with wrexham running out 3-0 winners, Billy Ashcroft, later to become our record signing & 1st Boro player to break the £100k barrier, was playing No9 for Wrexham that day but failed to score

I first got into watching the Boro with John Neal's team when I was a young lad. Good times with some good young players coming through. Happy days.
Excellent manager, he'd put together a young, exciting team that the board could see as assets & started to make noices about cashing in with the clubs crown jewels & JN decided he'd had eniugh
