31st of January in icy condition Boro & Newcastle shared a 6 goal thriller

Boro took the lead, Newcastle equalised, Boro restored the lead, 2-1 with a quality finish header from Glenn Keeley & then the late, great Willie Maddren making it 3-1 & game over...................... Or so we thought
With minutes remaining & Boro cruising my dad said to me, let's go son the Boro's won this game, let's get home before there's any trouble
We lived West Lane, the away coaches parked at the top of our road & my dad didn't want us caught up in anything

We can't have got to the bottom of the holgate steps approaching bootboy alley when this geordie infront us with this massive transistor radio stuck to his ear shouts it's 3 all
I thought surely he can't be right, but my he was, Newcastle had scored a very, very late consolation goal & then a very, very, very late equaliser

I bet big Jack threw a few milk bottle crates at the players once they got back to the dressing room

Big Jacks team

Jim Platt
Frank Spraggon
Ian Bailey - 3rd game for the Boro, all at home
Graeme Souness
Stuey Boam
Willie Maddren
Bobby Murdoch
David Mills
Phil Boersma
Terry Cooper
Davey Armstrong

Another big Boro disappointment in my early life! When the final whistle blew we were all in a state of shock. The Geordies were all as high as kites as they poured out of the Clive road corner, knowing they had got away with it.
