Played cricket for Yorkshire, Lecestershire and England before becoming a first-class umpire. He once played a full day of county cricket before going on to play an evening football match.
 
Perhaps one Boro fan put the whole thing in a nutshell when Carlisle substitute Joe Davis came on for injured Ray Train 10 minutes from time. "Boro could have done with him. We've been snookered for most of the afternoon" he propounded.

Didn't happen. I'm saying Ivor Broadis made that up. The only one propounding that was Ivor in his own mind and proud of his comedy genius, passed it off as an overheard propound from a Boro fan.
