1st ever 2nd divison match & they got thumped 9-0, our goal machine goalscorer Brian Clough was in awesome form that afternoon scoring 5 himself, becoming 5th different Boro player to do so & the 6th overall to score 5 goals by one player in a 1st team competitive match, Alan Peacock & Bill Harris got a brace each, Bill Harris scored two penalties, the 8th time this has happened in our history, acrowd of 32,367 were to see this record score (without conceding)

Wally Earnest, registered No405, wearing the No6 shirt, made his debut, he went on to play a total of 8 games, zero goals, all in 1958

The Boro also won the away game 6-4, they must have been sick of the sight of Cloughy, he helped himself to another bag of goals when grabbing a hatrick & another brace from Alan Peacock, plus an OG

You'll be amazed to learn that I was there ! and so was my mate Paul Smith. A truly amazing day. I still have the programme and it has several signatures too

Up there with Cardiff and the comeback wins

happy days
