I went to the friendly we played in Leipzig in 2010 and really liked the place and I've been back a few times since. A couple of years ago I spotted a DVD about the history of Lokomotive Leipzig and bought it. Lokomotive were formerly Vfb and this picture appears early in the film. I assume it's a local newspaper cutting or something.

I was wondering if Steve Bloomer was playing but checked and he had returned to Derby County in 1910 - (His Boro career was 1906-10 - 59 goals in 125 games). The reason I wondered is because the England goalscorer was coaching in Germany in Berlin in 1914 and was made a prisoner of war.

And on another note, for those who were looking back on a different thread on their attendance at (or failure to get in to) the Oxford promotion game in '67, the time from the 1913 Leipzig game to then is roughly the same as from that Oxford game to now. There's every chance that there will have been old blokes at the Oxford game that had watched the 1913 team, albeit probably not in Germany.

This has got me doing a bit of raking around. Vfb Leipzig were one of the top German clubs at the time and played their home games at Sportplatz Leipzig. Judging from this picture taken around the same time, it looks like the game took place on the pitch on the far side of the main stadium.

Another great pic. Looks busy with some sort of event going on. The field nearer the camera appears to have a lot of people milling about, a market maybe.
I saw Locomotive Leipzig play against Viking in the early 80s, one of the few games my dad attended after I was 11 and old enough to travel to the Boro alone.
Viking won 1-0 at home, lost the away game 3-2 but went through on away goals. A bit of a shock at the time.

It's straight off wiki, that picture. It's a ballooning event or something. The DVD I have has highlights of Lokomotive's European games but I can't remember if that game is on there. I must have another look.
