We scored the most home goals, 58 & the most away goals, 32, in the league
Not bad after 3 seasons in the league

Champions WBA were the only team to beat us at home (Linthorpe road) that season

Joe Cassidy this day scored on his Boro debut but his biggest historical achievement was a couple of seasons later when he had the honour of scoring the 1st ever league goal at our new stadium Ayresome Park 👍

We carried on from our opening day victory when after beating Stockport County 3-1 when this day 1901 we thrashed Newton Heath 5-0
The third season as a football league club was the 1st time we've won the opening 2 games of a new season

Joe Cassidy, who is to make Boro history in a couple of years, bagged another goal, a home debut goal, to go with his opening awayday debut goal becoming the 8th different Boro player to score on their debut

That young Alfie was a good player.

The Workhouse End loved him. "He's here he's there he's every bleedin where - Alfie Common"
(y) 25th Feb 1905, Alf Common scored the only goal of the game, a penalty, at Sheff Utd to record our 1st away win since we moved to Ayresome park in 1903, in fact, our previous away win was again at Sheff Utd, when winning 3-1 on the 7th March 1903

Did you go? 😀

This day 1901 we lost our 1st game of our 1st ever promotion winning season when going down 1-0 at Glossop, at their ground Pyegrove

Glossop, a Derbyshire located team, one of the smallest towns in England to have had a Football League club & remains to this day & the smallest town whose team has played in the English top fligh, they Joined the football league in 1899 & won promotion to the top flight in their 1st season, finishing runners up to Man City, sadly relegated after only one season

This was the third game on the trot the mighty Boro had fielded an unchanged team, after 2 victories to date, a 3-1 away & 5-0 home win, manager John Robson was confident of continuing the fine start, back to the drawing board

This day the 28th September seen the mighty Boro back to winning ways, after winning the 1st two opening fixtures to the season we lost our previous game away to Glossp 1-0, John Robson must have gave them a good talking to as they certainly made amands beating Doncaster Rovers 6-0 at Linthorpe road in front of 10,638

After an emphatic 6-0 home victory over Doncaster Rovers in our previous game we travelled to Lincoln City, our 1st ever opponents as a football league club 2 seasons ago

This result went the same way as our previous fixture v Lincolon as we fell to a 2-1 defeat, with James Tennant scoring our consolation goal, his third of the season

After 5 games we've won 3 (3-1, 5-0 & 6-0) & lost 2 (0-1 & 1-2)

John Robsons 2 seasons as manager the Boro have finished 14th & 6th

When Wardrobe was interviewed post match and asked the secret to his goalscoring he replied .............. "It's narnia business"

After the 1st 5 fixtures resulted in three win, with two defeats, 15 goals with 4 replies & 6 points out of 10, Boro manager John Robson will have been quietly confident this season his team could be making a promotion push in their 3rd season as a league club

West Brom, who were in fantatsic form came to Linthorpe road looking to continue their great start to the season, with a single defeat, losing at home to Glossop on the opening game of the season, they have won 5 & drew one of their last 6 games, winning the last 3 on the bounce, we certainly have our work cut out to bounce back from our defeat at Lincoln the previous saturday

Unfortunatly we couldnt come back to winning ways & with our biggest crowd of the season, 15,000, we lost our 1st back to back games of the season & our 1st home defeat of the season, when going down 2-1
Dave Smith, his 1st goal of the season, got our consolation goal, John Robson has a bit of thinking to do to get the migty Boro back on track

This week 1901 (19th October) seen the mighty Boro claim their 2nd away win of the season with a comfortable 3-0 win at Woolwich Arsenal

After losing our 1st back to back games of the season we needed to get back to winning way & not waste the good start we had to the season, Arsenal, up the Boro game, were unbeaten at home that season winning all their 4 home games, we put an end to that:)

David Smith put us 1-0 up with his 1st goal of the season, a penalty, our 2nd away penalty & 4th as a league club
John Brearly doubling our score for his 3rd of the season
Joe Cassidy making it 3-0 with his 3rd of the season

This day, 26th October, seen the mighty Boro claim our 1st back to back wins since the 1st two games of the season

The previous week we won at Woolwich Arsenal 3-0 after losing two on the bounce & on this day, we followed that win over Arsenal with a 2-1 home win over Barnsley, a team we have now faced at home 3 times since joining the league in 1899 & winning all 3, today been the 1st time they've scored on Teesside

John Bearley scored a brace, the 3rd time he's recorded a double in a game that season & taking his seasons tally to 7

Attendance at Linthorpe road was 5,000

Record for the season to the end of october
Played 8, won 5, drew 0, lost 3
Goals for 21, against 7, points 10

Promotion material, or midtable finish?

This day 23rd November we created a new club record with going 6 league games unbeaten , after my last match report when we beat Barnsley 2-1 at the back end of October we started November with an away win at Leicester Fosse 2-0 on the 2nd, with goals from Bearley & Tennant for their 8th & 4th respectively, on the 9th, we followed that up beating Preston 2-1 at home with goals by Brearley, his 9th & Turner with his 3rd of the season, a 2-2 draw on the 16th away to Burnely seen goals from, that man again, Brearley & Tennant, with their 10th & 5th of the campaigne

Which brings us to this day, the 23rd & a 3-0 home win over Port Vale, goals from Turner, Cassidy & Tennant, for their 4th, 4th & 6th goals of the season

Promotion to the 1st divison, in our 3rd season in the football league, is looking good for John Robson boys

A 0-0 draw at Saltergate to end November unbeaten & extend our unbeaten run to 7 games & with it, our unbeaten record run extended
Boro manager John Robson winning manager of the month award (although the award wasn't around back then)

Today seen the visit of Gainsborough Trinity, who the previous season, we recorded our biggest victory as a league club when winning 9-2 at AP. This time around the goals were less as we ran out 3-1 winners, with the following goalscorers
Dave Smith penalty, his 3rd of the season & our 3rd as a league club
John Brearly for his 11th of the campaigne
James Tennant scoring his 8th of the season, as the mighty Boro recorded their 8th consecutive game unbeaten, a new unbeaten record as a league club for us & serious promotion contenders
