Not bad after 3 seasons in the league

Champions WBA were the only team to beat us at home (Linthorpe road) that season

Joe Cassidy this day scored on his Boro debut but his biggest historical achievement was a couple of seasons later when he had the honour of scoring the 1st ever league goal at our new stadium Ayresome Park 👍

We carried on from our opening day victory when after beating Stockport County 3-1 when this day 1901 we thrashed Newton Heath 5-0
The third season as a football league club was the 1st time we've won the opening 2 games of a new season

Joe Cassidy, who is to make Boro history in a couple of years, bagged another goal, a home debut goal, to go with his opening awayday debut goal becoming the 8th different Boro player to score on their debut

That young Alfie was a good player.

The Workhouse End loved him. "He's here he's there he's every bleedin where - Alfie Common"
(y) 25th Feb 1905, Alf Common scored the only goal of the game, a penalty, at Sheff Utd to record our 1st away win since we moved to Ayresome park in 1903, in fact, our previous away win was again at Sheff Utd, when winning 3-1 on the 7th March 1903

This day 1901 we lost our 1st game of our 1st ever promotion winning season when going down 1-0 at Glossop, at their ground Pyegrove

Glossop, a Derbyshire located team, one of the smallest towns in England to have had a Football League club & remains to this day & the smallest town whose team has played in the English top fligh, they Joined the football league in 1899 & won promotion to the top flight in their 1st season, finishing runners up to Man City, sadly relegated after only one season

This was the third game on the trot the mighty Boro had fielded an unchanged team, after 2 victories to date, a 3-1 away & 5-0 home win, manager John Robson was confident of continuing the fine start, back to the drawing board
