No as the forecasts are this could be going on for the next year if we are lucky. Obviously they would need to reviewed when this subsides and there is no suggestion to say it won’t. To call it a Nazi style power grab in this very serious situation is extreme. I thinks it’s evident that people are gonna continue to do what they like until such powers come in to protect people. People demand a shutdown, when powers are enforced like this they cry foul of that.

So they just stuck an extra year on, ,for a laugh, as there's no way they could extend it in future if it proves to be needed.

I'd want to see what's in the bill before commenting on details, but as an initial reaction I'd say that it needs to be able to be reversed as soon as the virus is under control.

Cooper: what you are saying doesn't make sense? You say they can "Review" when this subsides? They could also "review" to extend it. Why, if Boris is confident we can get coronavirus done in 3 months would he want special powers for two years if he wasn't on a nazi style grab of power and control over us? It's obvious what's happening here

But then you are constantly debating legislation every few months. What if it turns out to be 2 years and you’ve had to pass legislation every few months. Waste of resources. I’d prefer to get something in place that covers the worst case and then review soon as it subsided. I agree with dood that it needs to be reviewed soon as it subsides I don’t agree with it going on longer than needed

Listening a bit more, it looks like the exponential rise will continue for two weeks before rate reduces. That sounds more like the Italy situation which 'only' had a 15% rise today, although deaths now exceed those in China.
The more I hear the ramblings of Johnson and the experts, they really don't seem to have much idea of where this is going.
It's a week since an increase from 5000 to 10000 tests per day would happen. And now it's going to ramp up to 25000 a day. Well were at 7000 after a week.

It's certainly worth being concerned about. There is much about this administration, like it's twin in America and a few others springing up around the world that has authoritarian tendencies and proto-fascist indicators.

Interesting from the Boris promoter on here. Backed him when he was dithering and waiting for Macron and Co. to give leadership, now applauding him for going over the top.
The only way it will last two years is through poor national management of the situation, so perhaps he's doing the right thing.

Last week it was 5000 a day going up to 10000 next week, then up to 25000 in 4 weeks time.

Lost all faith in the CMO and the CSO, both waffle like politicians, don't believe a word they say. Remembe when they said we were testing enough? No need to close large gatherings? 60% for herd immunity? etc etc etc Now it's ppe bull****.....'it's a logistics problem' ffs its been over 4 weeks, who are they trying to kid? Frontline nurses etc wearing surgeons' masks if any are available. Staff off work waiting and wanting to be tested but have to self-isolate instead.
