This “NHS Data Grab” thing.

So they may make a statement about data confidentiality but they would never make a statement about Covid?
Stop it. They were, as I have said, publishing advice to their members. The very reason for which they exist. Medical advice is not why they exist, nor is it their area of expertise, though clearly it is of their members.

Hmm….

When I referred to a BMA statement in relation to Covid restrictions you stated that the BMA would not make any such statement , citing the reasons above.

Below is a link to a more recent BMA statement re Covid restrictions.

Again not what I said, I said that medical advice is not why they are there it has nothing to do with their mission statement. Which is why I wouldn't quote them on medical matters. That material is from their members generally, not the opinion of the BMA.

Got our paperwork submitted this week, it was a push as the wife wasn't bothered. That is the crux of the problem for me, indifference. That is how data grabs like this go through with little to no resistance. Medical history should not be in the hands of corporations. I have a real hatred of healthcare for profit, and this is one of many steps leading us down that path. It needs to be stopped.

Baron what paperwork was submitted was it on the nhs website?

Has anyone who submitted the form to their GP had any confirmation that the Doctor had actually added the required code to your medical records?

I phoned my GP reception and asked if it was best to drop the forms off or email/post them. The receptionist said it didn't matter as they would be "filed away" which ever way they were sent. When I asked her what she meant by "filed away" vs the GP entering the code she said there was no need for the GP to do anything as the opt out was on line via the NHS web site.

When I explained there were 2 ways to opt out, the online way via the NHS site and the form given to the GP she had no knowledge what so ever of it and was adamant that it was only the NHS opt out required. When I quoted the reports and offered to send her the links she backtracked and said to bring them down.

I wonder how many forms have been given to receptionists that have then just been "filed away" without the necessary action taken by the GP.

I'm at my GP's tomorrow to drop the forms off so will be having a further conversation with who ever I give the forms to.

Gene, I asked the same question and was told if I call and ask for the admin department, they should be able to confirm if its been done. Receptionists aren't usually the ones who process those forms. There will be a compliance issue for those surgeries who do nothing with them and you are well within your rights to request confirmation its been done.

I've tried both my NHS number and not knowing my NHS number on the NHS website and both came back not knowing me.

It should be printed on any letter you've received from the NHS. I made the mistake of thinking it was my NI number at first.

I see some GDPR carnage shortly due to this.

Opt out per organisation is a real grey area.

If you work where I am then you have Community physio in a different organisation to hospital care, which is different to the GP and different to mental health/ adult care services.

It will take more than one opt out to cover everyone.
