Things to do in Devon

Gee, thanks everyone, some great ideas posted.
We are staying near Paignton, not even sure if that's north or south??!!
We were going to do Longleat safari on way home, would you say Longleat is better than Paignton zoo, don't think we need to do both.

I went a little further last year and went across to Cornwall for the 1st time. My inlaws bought a holiday cottage on a holiday site there. What a nice place Cornwall is, reminds me of North Yorkshire in landscape and the seaside places a bit like whitby or Scarborough. I'm hopefully going again in a few weeks time. We stayed at a place called Hayle.

We are staying at Paignton, not sure if that is north or south Devon to be honest.
We were thinking about going to Longleat safari on way home.
I would assume Longleat is better than Paignton zoo? Don't think we need to do both.

Paignton is in South Devon - Treat yourself to a day on the steam train to Kingswear and get the ferry across to Dartmouth. Dartmouth is a beautiful town and is one of a handful of places that had a railway station built and wasn't connected to a train track. Well worth a trip down the River Dart.

Will you have children with you? If so, crabbing at Stoke Gabriel is a must. Stoke Gabriel is a beautiful little village just outside Paignton that nestles on the Dart.

Brixham for a crab salad or better still, buy oysters from the little hut opposite the pub, they allow you to buy drinks from the pub and drink them whilst eating your seafood at their seating area overlooking the harbour.

Torquay is always a delight but better still is the beach at Babbacombe. You can always travel to Dawlish for a day out or to Slapton Sands in the other direction. Slapton Sands was the scene of a tragic event in the 2nd world war with the loss of over 1,000 American lives.

Depends where you are. It takes ages to get from North coast to south coast.

If on north coast, then:
Clovelly is an amazing place. Picturesque village on the side of a steep cliff, with old-world fisherman's houses and donkeys used to deliver peoples shopping because it is too steep for cars. Well worth going. You need to be fit to walk up again.
Lynton & Lynmouth are really nice villages to visit.
Appledoor is nice.

Exmoor and Dartmoor are nice. Loads of hills and walks around there.

South coast Devon I know less. Looe and Polperro are just over the border into Cornwall, and are really nice places.

Is that at the surfer cafe? We popped in there early May and had some fantastic pizza on the balcony in the sunset - great little spot Croyde even for us non-surfers.

Longleat is great. We did the Koala experience there and that was great.
If you do the Safari, you can avoid the Monkeys if you value your car.
