I learned to drive in Nairobi in the late 80s, where filling stations were manned. Although I got a UK licence when I returned I only drove a few times and never put petrol in myself. That reminds me - my licence has just expired on my 70th birthday.

Learnt to drive. Was too skint when I lived in Boro to pay for lessons, never mind buy a car. Lived in London for 30 odd years so never really needed to learn. I have now got my provisional and am thinking about getting some lessons but as I am now in my mid 50s so am wondering if I could do it later in life.

Same. I have always lived in cities and never needed to. My mate’s back in Teesside don’t understand how this is possible.

AB, the question for me now is do I have a go now? Spoke to some mates who advised me to have a go but they got thei licenses when they were young. It’s not cheap and, although I could afford the lessons and the purchase of a car, is it worth it. I suppose it’s a question for me to answer.
