There is talk on various platforms about civil disobedience..............

It's not the energy companies making the profit though is it? It is the suppliers? So Centrica, not British Gas etc. I could be wrong though!
No I think you're right. That's the problem, my understanding is energy companies don't have much choice. In fact some obviously went bust because of previous price caps.

It's the suppliers (or should that be producers? Are the energy companies the suppliers? No wonder everyone is confused) who are raking it in at the expense of everyone else.

So why arnt people doing something about this and changing their suppliers to UK owned companies like Ecotricity that have no shareholders and all profits pumped back into green projects.
"Ecotricity began with a mission to replace electricity made by burning fossil fuels with green energy. We succeeded and now we aim to replace fossil fuel natural gas with sustainable green gas.
So, we’ve started building green gas mills and our first one will be up and running soon."
Its OK to whinge and moan about it but something else to actually do something about it.
I get that, but switching over to Ecotricity would mean me finding an extra 126 quid a month to pay for the 366 quid a month they have quoted me

If Ecotricty could match what I`m paying now, in the future then yes I`d switch but at the moment that 126 quid needs to go on other things

I`ll keep an eye on them in the future, thanks (y)

I noticed a pattern on this board from people who are supposedly outraged at the government but say there's nothing we can do, basically protests won't work and keep paying your extortionate bills. It makes me wonder whether some of there people are that outraged or maybe they've got enough money in the bank that the cost of living crisis isn't really gonna affect them.

Something needs to change and either the government do it or the people will force a change.

I suppose you would have to check the standing and unit charges, not rely on their quotation. And you could move but not pay their quotation.

It's so complicated when everyone is just using variable tariffs.

Ecotricity quoted me another £200pm and wanted me to sign up to a fixed when i looked a couple of days ago. Load of bollox. I know I don't use £200 extra a month than what I am paying. In fact I'm in credit because I'm overpaying to try and minimise the October hike. (Smart meter so my usage is monitored daily).

Riots are definitely a possibility if things continue as they are. We saw a few years ago that all it takes is a spark. Once one starts there's every chance it could spread across the country.

Potentially could get pretty nasty if it starts, this government aren't anywhere near competent enough to calm a situation like that. It would require them to have the capacity for empathy and the ability to listen. They're more likely to pour fuel on the flames and look to "suppress" or "stamp out" any civil disobedience.
perfect opportunity for truss to lay down the law. she will revel in it

My quote from Ecotricity £260 month currently to £522 - f*ck right off.

Yes - Ecotricity is more expensive than most companies. - I think its worth me reducing my spending in other areas to allow me to do this.
"We set our prices at a level that allows us to do our job of building new sources of green energy - as we seek to end the use of fossil fuels in the energy sector.  We are a not for dividend company, the money we have (all of it) goes into our mission, to green up Britain."

Plenty of them on here 🤣

I`m currently with British Gas fixed till Aug 23 so the following is a comparison against Ecotricity that have offered fixed for a year

Electric

BG Unit Rate = 37.861p per Unit
BG Standing Charge = 42.409p per day

Ecotricty Unit Rate = 63.54p per Unit
Ecotricity Standing Charge = 55.79p per day

Gas

BG Unit Rate = 12.171p per Unit
BG Standing Charge = 25.576p per day

Ecotricty Unit Rate = 18.55p per Unit
Ecotricity Standing Charge = 34.37p per day

At what cost to us the Tax payer. It's mainly the youth of this Country bored of smashing bus stops and without a care of other peoples property thinking it will make them feel good. It won't change a Government as you say. Governments sit in Ivory Towers with judges and the like, they have no concept of the needs of the people on ground level.
This isn't though. There is a growing unrest with this government. Don't confuse bored youth with an uprising.

I love the way this is used as an insult!

If you break it down, it's essentially someone who is lucky enough to have a comfortable life, but is a decent enough person to care about others and the community. Doesn't sound TERRIBLE, does it?

So, governments rarely survive if just 3.5% of the population stand against them.

On here we go the ego has landed

Anyone I’ll say that again anyone that voted for a boris Johnson Tory party got exactly what they voted for.

What did you think was going to happen.
Odd thay you should derail a thread specifically to insult me, then claim I have an ego. Maybe if you weren't obsessed with me I wouldn't think people were obsessed with me? Food for thought.

I didn't vote for Johnson.

I can’t write what I’d really like to see happen as I’d end up on a watchlist but it is going to take violence and destruction on a huge scale before the elites will be minded to change anything.
I am enjoying the campaign swelling up in America that sees protests at the residences of billionaires. Don’t give these horrible greedy f*ckers a moment of peace. Of course, I’d never advocate that in the UK…

In the words of Ralf Little, "amazing how many people don't realise that phrase is actually a compliment, not an insult. As it points out that a person is lucky enough to have a comfortable life, but also wants a fairer society for those who don't".
