There is such a thing as society

Context...

"If children have a problem, it is society that is at fault. There is no such thing as society. There is living tapestry of men and women and people and the beauty of that tapestry and the quality of our lives will depend upon how much each of us is prepared to take responsibility for ourselves and each of us prepared to turn round and help by our own efforts those who are unfortunate. And the worst things we have in life, in my view, are where children who are a great privilege and a trust—they are the fundamental great trust, but they do not ask to come into the world, we bring them into the world, they are a miracle, there is nothing like the miracle of life—we have these little innocents and the worst crime in life is when those children, who would naturally have the right to look to their parents for help, for comfort, not only just for the food and shelter but for the time, for the understanding, turn round and not only is that help not forthcoming, but they get either neglect or worse than that, cruelty. "

I like the idea of society
It went something like this in a large North Yorks village.
One person signed up to the NHS scheme and posted on the ‘Watts App Book Club Group’ (I know, I know,) that she had done so.
Guess what happened next

Society?

Society is a large collection of wage slaves, if we didn't have at least that we`d be filling each other in all the time.

A brilliant phrase, if only for provoking thought and debate. Was she the author, I wonder?

When all this lot is over, we can judge how apposite it was.

One things for sure they wouldnt have the grillox to take as much as 2 bob from the NHS in the future. Thats put paid to those chinless voters and greedy MPs.

Many of us are the "Children of Thatcher" It was drummed into us in the 1980s to look after number 1 and the theory went if everybody looks after themselves and their nuclear family we will all be better off. Of course it was not right at times.

Not wishing to disagree with Br14, this is the quote I have seen attributed;

“I think we have been through a period when too many people have been given to understand that when they have a problem it is government’s job to cope with it. ‘I have a problem, I’ll get a grant. I’m homeless, the government must house me.’ They are casting their problems on society. And, you know, there is no such thing as society. There are individual men and women and there are families. And no governments can do anything except through people, and people must look to themselves first. It is our duty to look after ourselves and then, also, to look after our neighbours. People have got their entitlements too much in mind, without the obligations. There is no such thing as an entitlement, unless someone has first met an obligation.”

You arent free as the land is owned , so you aren free to hunt and make shelter as you wish. You are owned and under the rules of the govt and have to live with with the Govt choices ONLY. People who say they want small Govt and there no such thing as society are fkg mental cases.
