The Walk of a Life Time - New Zealand?

Awesome effort: you only felt the one quake? we felt two 30 minutes or so apart :) Hope the wind wasn't too much of a bother
Only felt the one but others in our Group said there were two. Leaving Taupo this morning and heading back south. Great weekend. Finished off last night at Debretts pool and then the Steak House.

One of the official photos. Am 5th wheel in white.

I would LOVE to do this... if my marriage is going the way I think it is, I would look at this next year. I am envious as hell

How was the Steak House, was a bit ropey last time we went?
I reckon they must have Photoshopped that image, I can't recall that much blue sky on Saturday :)

You might be right that photo is taken with Bulli Point in the background however quite a bit actually did break through at the far end of the lake although I don’t recall much about it to,be honest as head down ahead of me most of the way. The steak was fine. Nothing special. Nothing bad.

Ah they are on the beautiful Waikato Timber Trail. That swing bridge is the Maramataha bridge. You can cycle across that. Some of the greatest bike trails in the world round there. From now on they are going to see some great countryside as reward for their 1000 kilometres walked.

They will be here now.

Looks like it.
Currently in Macdonalds in Taumarunni

That is a real shame for them. They've not had the best weather so far; fingers crossed it improves.

If its any consolation (which it isn't) this is a very wet and cold spring, not the usual spring at all

Yes it is weather dependent and very dangerous in bad weather up on the saddle. Can they wait around as the weather may well clear in a day or so?

They are going to head off. A landslide has also blocked another part of the route and they have their kayaks booked for the 100km river section.

But, they have enough time and will come back to do that walk in Feb,

They met some mountain bikers doing the 3000k… in 30 days. One of them was from Lincoln, been there 25 years.
Have been invited to spend xmas with them too which is nice.

Just finished canoeing down the Whaganui River - lovely weather for them and a nice 100km or so respite for their feet.

Nearly half way now - they transfer to South Island on 26th.

On my list to do this, its classed as one of the great walks here.

Got Routebeurn & Paparoa to do early next year, got to get them in before the body gives up :)

Honestly, they haven't missed out on too much, I did the crossing a few years ago and they will do much nicer walks over the next few weeks.

Doing it all in one day was something. What an adventure they are having. It took me 3 days to kayak down the Whanganui River.it is a special place for the Māoris Hope they stopped off in Whanganui town and enjoyed its delights. I love that place.

View of the river and Mount Ruhupehu from the lookout tower.

Yes, they stayed by the river. Loved it.

They had to kill a day because they were waiting for a new tent to be delivered.

Their ‘tent of a lifetime….will never leak’ variety was beaten by the inclement New Zealand spring.
Thankfully the US manufacturers took the hit and sent a new one.
