* The Unofficial "Official" Middlesbrough v Blackburn Rovers [11/24] Match-Day thread *

I would have hooked Conway he did very little other than wander out to the right bringing a CB with him and assuring that Doak had no room to operate in. Don't know why LL was taken off he looked more likely to create something for himself. I would have tried Gilbert for Conway to try to find some space and invention in the attacking third.

Just seen how badly the goal was offside to crown a thoroughly unpleasant evening. Fkking batsard bolllocking Blackburn chunts. Message ends

Go and put your feet up in front of the fire and think about what we will do to Hull on Saturday. ;)

I’ve been at band practice, can someone sum tonight up for me please, all I’ve seen is a still shot that their goal was offside

Edmundson and Borges our best players on the night.

A pretty drab team performance, McGree could have been sent off for a poor challenge. Resulted in him going off injured and Hamilton coming on who whilst having plenty of the ball was extremely poor in my opinion. Doak was well marshallled. Conway just didn't suit playing the 10 role in this game.

Howson very poor, Barlaser ok some good passes.

Brynn was ok for most of the night but got a bit nervous on the ball when we went behind and bizarrely kicked the ball out under no pressure.

All in all poor night. We move on to Saturday and hopefully get Azaz and Burgzorg back in the side and beat managerless Hull.

Dieng still out.. if Azaz and Burgzorg have what he’s had. Then they might still have the squits..

We were poor all game. Leggy, no energy, no intensity. They looked sharper and fresher, unsurprisingly.

McGree should probably have seen red after 10 minutes (could argue either way). They missed an absolute sitter. Lath had 2 half decent chances. We had lots of 2nd half pressure but not many clear chances. We also gave it away under no pressure about a million times. Awful game. A 0-0 draw would have been fair.

Then they put the ball in our net twice out of the blue. The 1st was a foot offside (given). The 2nd was a brilliant move to be fair, but it was 3 yards offside (linesman was nowhere) so he let it go.

They saw out the game comfortably.

Edit - and other people can type quicker than me so there’s nothing new here!

That performance was back to the basic errors at the start of the season.
Frightening!
Maybe the pressure of the last three victories raised our hopes too much?
Back to earth with a bump on a cold winter November night.
No excuses.

We are good enough to finish in the play offs. But for automatic promotion we need to learn how to win these games when we aren’t at our best and / or missing our in form players. Just another typical boro night. When the hype train was just building up a bit of steam they can dampen it with a game like tonight.

Sums it up. I got slated last night on this thread for saying we were second best after 20 minutes but i wasn't the only one who could see the way the game was going. The shape was wrong up front but that defence also lacks mobility - they were pulling us apart from the off and it was clear they'd probably find a way through. Going forward, there wasn't enough coming through the middle, despite the odd clever ball from Barlaser, and bringing on Hamilton had the predictable effect of dampening any threat from the left, meaning Doak was our only threat, and they were predictably swarming all over him.

Edmundson and Clarke is an ok defence against limited teams but against a clever mobile attack it's one-paced. Ayling is willing but has limitations in terms of passing and defending one-on-one. Borges is improving but I'm not sure he will reach the required level. If Dijksteel is never to be fully trusted, I'd be looking to sign or loan the best fast and technical right-back I could find. In terms of breaking teams down at home, it's good to see Gilbert back and I hope he gets some game time - like Azaz he can play a clever pass.

There's not much wrong. With Morris, Hackney and Azaz back I'd still fancy us to go to Leeds and Burnley and get a result. But you long for that settled defence to emerge.

That makes no sense. We did everything to deserve a point.

We should have had a draw and that would have been decent.
We also could have been down to 10 men after 20 mins but we got away with that. There were 2 bad decisions that were big decisions. One went in our favour and one didn't.

We created next to nothing for 90 mins. We were second best first half. Controlled the game a bit better in the second half but did nothing in the final third. Our only opportunity was the Hamilton effort from the edge if the box where he should have at least worked the keeper.

I'm not turning that off after the final whistle thinking we were unlucky there.

Got what we deserved for me. Blackburn edged a poor game and got a win.

After sleeping on it, we were very poor & lacked ideas / creativity in final 3rd - too reliant on Doak.

ELL & Conway are too similar making same runs & same positions - without the supply both, though esp Conway last night were ineffective.

Left side was, very limited for us, Hamilton looked off the pace, needs to be playing regularly, probably benefit by a loan & game time.

Gilbert starting in Azaz's place over Conway or ELL & keeping the shape we've had recently would probably have been better & may be the way to go on Sat.. Gilbert has more creative vision & may be able to link the play better..

Their goal was so offside.. & our home form is lousy..

I threw up a couple of times tonight watching Micah Hamilton trying to play football. I thought he was going to show a lot more than this, early days of course but he hasn't shown anything of note really has he. I'd of subbed him back off tonight midway through the second half.
He was Emmersonesque!

Trust me, a gem, maybe even a future legend

Not sure we have to find a way to win games like these, when games like these are ones where we have our main creative outlet sick and his replacement just back from injury and unable to play 90 minutes then have another enforced change after 20 minutes.

We do have to find a way to get more points than the 6 or 7 teams around us. Doesn't really matter in what games that happens in.

It was a disjointed performance with a makeshift team. We, probably, didn't deserve to lose, whilst not doing enough to win.

Gilbert got some minutes as did forss. Edmundson played well and borges, barlaser and Doak were all OK. We got a bit of men's football into Hamilton. Scrugg and BMW got an opportunity to moan, so the night wasn't a waste of time.

We only have 3 days to fester before we go again. Hopefully we have more players to choose from.
