* The unofficial "Official" Matchday Thread an Magazine v Preston North End *

Get it in perspective- for 70 minutes there was only one winner. First 20 minutes of the Second half we played some good football. We lost because we can’t see a team off despite dominating. They made some great blocks and the keeper had one of those days but with a calmer head we should have been at least 3 up when they scored. There is clearly a problem with concentration and conditioning to see games out but some of the rubbish on here tonight is laughable. We are a good championship striker and a quality holding midfielder away from a half decent side. Wilder will get them fitter and more disciplined and we could challenge top six. At the moment we are as good as most teams, better than a couple and behind another four or five. Not a time for despair people.

Agree. Peltier was probably 2 inches from making it 2-0. Also Tav had a goal bound effort blocked seconds before they scored the second.

Very fine margins😕

" a good championship striker"
When's the last time our crack recruitment team signed one of those :unsure: :poop::poop:

I thought I would post the results for my algorithm, for those interested. Remember 1 = home win, 2 = draw and 3 = away win

Well.
That was a disappointment.
Just watched Chris Wilder`s post-match interview: he said some players had gone "too individual" in the second half - the "look at me show".
When asked how he was going to deal with the issue - he said - [if they dont stick to the script] "Simple! They dont play"!
I`m really interested who gets selected to start at Huddersfield - and who doesnt.
Now he can sort the men from the boys and get down to the nitty gritty.
Those who cant or dont, cut the mustard, might be signing their own travel warrant.
This could be exciting.(y)
Every cloud....an all that.

Absolutely pathetic.

I am raging with that, if I was Chris Wilder I'd have them reporting for training at 5am and watching that 2nd half on a loop for at least 6 hours.
From his comments post - match he might be doing just that. (y)
Not a happy bunny.
Berating players attitudes - wandering off script in second half and behaving like individuals, not a team.
I got the impression he was fuming!
"We chucked the game"
"One point from six isnt good enough"!:mad:

We need a defensive or at least combative centre mid who the rest of them are scared of letting down who leads by example, organises and influences the referee etc.

We are weak as pl55 in the main. When they went a goal up their senior players were refereeing the game and telling us where to take free kicks, knocking the ball away and managing the referee. We just wandered around like shell shocked doyles, half heartedly trying to get back into the game desperately hoping someone else would take the lead or initiative.

Oh for a prime Grant.

We need injured players back.
We need a new keeper.
We need a Captian/B'satrd in the middle.
We desperately need the forward thinking midfielders to learn how to take advantage of Sporar's movement and positioning. About a dozen times last night he could have been played in, but the majority of the good picked out balls fell to Crooks, Jones and Peltier unfortunately.
Hernandez and Tav are horrible at looking at the options in front of them and making the right choice, they need to improve that massively, not every piece of possession near the box is a step over show reel opportunity or a 'blast a shot' chance, when someone is making a run off the defender next to you.

Furious, gutted, but I can see the signs of what we are trying to do,

Bola, Crooks, Watmore, Peltier and Sporar were really good I thought, McNair too. Even Howson was pretty effective going forward.

Jones was hit and miss, Hernadez and Tav overplayed and were lacking in end product.

Daniels and Samba were pretty poor again, the same as Milwall.

I dont know how appropriate this comment is, but:
The team is a motley crew of individuals -
Some: Very average.
Others: Good in parts.
None: Consistent.
None: A leader or Captain material [Bar one].

Darnell Fisher:1637750600517.png

May I suggest the following needs to happen to improve the situation:
* Timescale.....complete fully by end of the season?
* Send Hernandez back to Norwich.
* Retire Bamba - assess whether Coaching role is appropriate
* Remove Captaincy from Johnny Howson
* Captaincy to Crooks
* Sell big Ouchie
* Get rid of Daniels
* Move Tav on
* Keep Paddy
* Give Duncan a pay rise
* Keep Andraz
* Gentlemen`s agreement to terminate contracts for Ameobie and Fisher.
* Recall Coulson, Wood, Wing, Spence, Hackney, Walker
* Sell Akpom
* Cheerio to Peltier and Siliki.
* The walking wounded and injured need to keep: Fry, Payero, Hall, Brown,
Chris Wilder needs to get his skates on - no doubt him and Scott are well down the path of identifying targets for January.
* Lots of "rubbish" (!). What if (!). Who would you have (!?).Outrage!!!!.......I trust Chris Wilder and the Management team to source better players and build a solid reliable promotion - capable team.
* Adversity, fear and inconsistency are the drivers upon which to build a successful team(y)

Good analysis, will always disagree on Tav, but he really divides opinion at the moment. First issue for me is defence needs sorting, we don't have a decent keeper and are currently relying on two lads to play every game in their mid 30s, who we got on frees after Cardiff let them go!

I thought it was apparent that our downfall was coming in that game and I posted to that effect about Evans well before he scored.

Now its fine for Wilder to complain about the manner in which we lost but does he have no influence from the the touch line?
When player's go off script you would find most good coaches would threaten them with the hook to put them back in line. And use the hook if they don't comply promptly. Good coaches can change game strategy in play. Wilder is not without blame for that debacle.

I cursed us as soon as I said that their manager was on the verge of the sack if they lost at around 60 minutes.

Double cursed us when I said I wasn't going back to the pub (which I normally do when we win).

Give over.
Just over a fortnight in charge - of a team Mr Warnock left in 14th place.
You cant polish a you-know-what an turn it into gold.
