* The unofficial "Official" Matchday Thread an Magazine v Preston North End *

Is this some kind of sick joke, have we been cursed - how many years do we have to put up with this mediocre dross - it’s abysmal.

after 70 minutes I couldn’t see a way that Preston could get anything from that game yet somehow e contrive to give them the win.

without singling anyone out just get rid of Tav - he’s average - he thinks he’s way better than he is - his set pieces are rubbish and most importantly he doesn’t learn - he’s not getting better but worse. Some fool will pay a canny few quid for him so get shot, he really is bang average.

On the positive side that was some of the most effective football we have seen in years for a fair bit of that game. Lacking leaders on the pitch again, how many times can we throw a game in a matter of minutes. Signs are positive though

They had two shots on target (at least according to the BBC) all game. Ugh.
I am happy with us going forward and creating chances (we need to convert more of them!!) and we have a recognisable pattern of play...
But we still have those fatal flaws mentally that we have to eradicate. We capitulate when we concede, we make individual errors.
We better hope Wilder can do a better job than Warnock at figuring out how to fix it.

Our players **** the bed as soon as they brought Johnson and Evans on. Started to panic every time they got the ball near our box. Daniels doesn’t fill me with any confidence and the lack of communication at times is frightening.

Even when they try to keep the ball in the corner, we win it back and immediately hoof it anywhere in absolutely panic.

Every time we’ve been in the lead and then gone behind, we’ve never looked remotely like coming back into it. QPR, Blackpool, Luton, Preston, I’ve probably missed some out!

Has to be a mentality issue as when we played some really good stuff today but you could sense as the game went on they were starting to worry that it was only 1-0.

Wilder has a bigger job on his hands than first thought. Mentally weak, lacking in intelligence, final ball/final third absolutely f*cking woeful. We have a squad full of average Championship players, no out and out goalscorer, no midfield b*stard. We are lop sided. Apart from that......we will smash mid table. Roll on next season. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Furious. How did we contrive to lose that. Evans shouldn't be scoring that header, we still need about ten clear cut chances to score once and we shoot ourselves in the foot time and again.....another season thrown away and it isn't even Christmas.

Wilder will be learning who is up for the job of playing his way. There are players there tonight who won’t be featuring in the second half off the season. Ive always seen this period as one where we start to mould the side for next season as no way we will make the playoffs. The side isnt quite there frustratingly.

Right now I think a lot of Boro fans would settle for midtable come the season end.

Might be mad but still reckon we will make the playoffs, he is completely changing how we play with Warnock's players, it is not going to happen overnight but we will get there !

I don't think we should give up. You can be 8-10 points off the playoffs in Feb and still make it.

We clearly need to win at least a few. We are clearly very inconsistent. I've not seen anyone batter us and the majority we've had chances to win.

Calmed down a bit now. We are playing better football than for a while, still mentally weak and lacking a goalkeeper with any pressence. Watmore going off was probably a bigger blow than I thought....we didn't have a replacement for him. Wonder if our poor fitness levels told in the end?

I do actually wonder if a top class Championship keeper could be the best signing Wilder can make in January. Keepers can give the entire team confidence and we haven’t had a truly good one since Randolph.

I'd say for the second match running we've struggled when Watmore went off.

I don't think we have a like for like replacement for the current front 2. That's why Hernandez came on. I'm guessing he doesn't rate Uche or Josh to do that 'job'.
