* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Stoke [09/24] Match-Day Thread *

Hackney looking a lot better today. Spraying the ball around. McGree makes a massive difference for us. Looking to shoot whenever he can. And Doak is raw but exciting.

State the obvious but we need at least one more. Come on boro!

I see that comparison. Think he's better technically than Adama like. Can go both ways and use both feet.

Adama was a genetic freak though and was unmatched athletically
Yeah being able to go both ways is massive. I was hoping he'd be able to get 1v1 with Gibson with the way they're setup but it seems he's only exposed when they have the ball, he's in a 2 when they're out of possession so covered by the left back.

They'll have to push men on this half though so maybe we'll get to see it.

I think this looks like the right choice for the three behind the striker here. Having McGree and Azaz means we've got options for unlocking the defence, and Doak will take the direct approach all day long. Also got good options from the bench (when fit) without having to mess about with Plan A week after week.

I think Hackney was unlucky. They were both at it.

Those kind of pulls happen all over the pitch. Much worse happens when strikers are bearing down on goal and the last defender is climbing all over them. If you were going to penalise them all (which frankly I'd love to see, in an ideal world) you'd end up with nobody left.

I know Doak will be getting all the plaudits, but Riley makes such a difference. Borges looks a better player as does Azaz.
Not surprisingly Mcgree offers a bit of balance. That's the main difference today.

Oddly enough, statistically or best 45 minutes of football was against Portsmouth, a game we didn't win.
