* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Stoke [08/24]. Carabao Cup 2nd Round. Programme and Match Day Thread *

Jeez.......you're pulling them out of the hat tonight 😂😂

Now THAT was brutal.......but he was a CM playing RB......but remember he was torn a new one. Hooked at HT wasn't he?
I think he was, maybe he was at left back though not right back? Not sure. But I think we were 3-0 down at half time and he was at fault for all 3.

The only other comparison I can think of to is David Winnie at Tranmere. His only appearance for Boro, he was tortured at left back as Boro were hammered 4-0 under the Prenton Park lights. That was truly dreadful.

I think Engel may well have eclipsed the lot tbh. If he plays for Boro again I’ll be astounded.

Why are people saying we should have pit a stronger team out?

Everyone is moaning about injuries so the less extra games we play the better. Of course losing 5 - 0 isn't ideal but I'd rather get knocked out now than play a stronger team and risk an injury.
Arguably we may have got in the playoffs last season if the chelsea game doesn't happen and we lose Bangura and Lath. I'm sure we probably got more injuries in our cup run last season too.

Clarke was probably our player of the season last year and one of our best players so far. He is definitely not the problem. Three other centre backs crocked and mysteriously disappearing again - Lenehan reappeared then gone again. No idea what’s happening with Fry.
We have a half decent squad - we just can’t keep them fit - particularly in key positions.

This style of play we have of having all the ball, not scoring and carved through like butter on the break is getting a little worrying. Early days and lots of changes tonight but not the start we had all hoped for.

By the way I said right at the start of the thread that this team selection was absolutely mental. If the chairman isn’t checking in with him after this then you’d wonder when he will. It has been absolutely appalling. 0-5 at home to Stoke FFS. 0-5. We better turn up on Saturday lunchtime after this. No excuses.

Get your point but had he put Latte Lath on the bench tonight he and Conway could have been brought on at half time in a bold positive move and we would have won this game. Bold and positive are not words you associate with Carrick. Strong and Steady is his way.
