We wait anxiously for news of new signings. Hoping for a rumour to solidify and take shape - but, like Chris wilder said today in his news conference - it looks like its going to be a "mad dash" in the final week for many clubs. Its been a frustrating period for us fans, for Chris wilder and the club in general. But clubs are playing their cards close to their chest. Maybe its because clubs are more cautious in the current financial climate? Like many others, we`ve signed expensive players on lavish contracts in the past and it hasnt always worked out as we would have liked? Ultimately, clubs can be left with a player costing a lot of money to warm the bench, where they cant recoup the transfer fee and are forced to move on at a loss.

Our squad is certainly "thin": literally and in terms of depth. But we have to make do with what we have until that situation changes. That is no excuse for lack of effort and determination in every game. Chris Wilder said today, those who played a part in the team, but are no longer in the picture or have moved on - "are gone! History"!

Another sell-out Boro away crowd. No doubt this will give the MSS crowd and those closer to the capital the opportunity to see the team closer to home. Nevertheless, we populate foreign stadia across the land - in huge numbers. We are by far the best and most consistent away - support in the Championship. We know from their attendance at the Riverside - away teams rarely fill the away corner. There may be other Championship contenders this season, who will talk about their "history", percentages and numbers - but lets see what happens when their team starts to fade [as they usually do].....we all know who we are talking about dont we.

Queens Park Rangers will try to pick up their first points of the season, when they play host to Middlesbrough on Saturday.
The hosts began their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers, while Boro drew 1-1 against West Bromwich Albion.

Saturday's hosts experienced a change in the dugout over the summer, with the departing Mark Warburton replaced by Michael Beale, who left his position as Aston Villa assistant manager to take up the role as QPR boss.

As well as bringing in a new manager, QPR also signed Jake Clarke-Salter and Kenneth Paal on free transfers, while Tyler Roberts and Taylor Richards arrived on loan deals.

After finishing in 11th place last season, the R's will aim to make a playoff push this term, although they got off to a less than ideal start last weekend.
A trip to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers ended in a 1-0 defeat after Lewis Travis grabbed what proved to be the winner in the 34th minute.

Following an opening day defeat, the R's have the opportunity to bounce back on Saturday as they attempt to extend their unbeaten league run against Middlesbrough to seven matches.

While the hosts are looking to avoid consecutive defeats, Middlesbrough will be hoping to add to the point they picked up in their season opener.
Chris Wilder began his first full season as Boro boss with a 1-1 home draw against a West Brom side that are expected to be fighting at the top of the table this term.

Isiah Jones grabbed his side's first goal of the season in the 10th minute, but a 51st-minute strike from John Swift ensured Middlesbrough had to settle for a point.
While their seventh-place finish last term owed a lot to the second-best home record in the league, Boro will need to improve upon their away form this time around if they are to secure a playoff place.

They could only manage six wins from their 23 away league games in the 2021-22 campaign, but they could signal their intent for the current season with a victory in their first away match of the season.

QPR will be without long-term injury absentee Jordan Archer, while Roberts is a doubt after missing the meeting with Blackburn due to a lack of match fitness.
Chris Willock and Luke Amos were also absent for the opening game of the season, but the pair are expected to be fit enough for a place on the bench.

After coming off the bench last weekend, Albert Adomah could be presented with a starting place for Saturday's contest.
As for Middlesbrough, they will welcome back Paddy McNair into the side after the defender missed the season opener through suspension.

Dael Fry was left out of the 1-1 draw against West Brom as a precaution, but the centre-back is in contention to start against QPR.
Summer signing Marcus Forss made his debut with a substitute appearance last weekend, and the Finland international is expected to be on the bench at Loftus Road.

Queens Park Rangers possible starting lineup:
Dieng; Kakay, Dickie, Clarke-Salter, Paal; Field, Johansen, Dozzell; Adomah, Chair, Dykes

Middlesbrough possible starting lineup:
Steffen; Dijksteel, Fry, McNair; Jones, McGree, Crooks, Howson, Giles; Watmore, Akpom

DEFENDER Rob Dickie admits that the R’s still have work to do but was confident that there was plenty of positives to take from Saturday’s opening day defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

Rangers suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Ewood Park, courtesy of Lewis Travis’ long-range effort however Mick Beale’s side return to Loftus Road this weekend to face a Middlesbrough side who like the Super Hoops will be eyeing up their first victory of the campaign, but the 26-year-old admits that he can’t wait to be back playing in front of the W12 faithful.

Dickie explained: “We are really looking forward to showing the fans the new look QPR and showing them how we can control games.

Hopefully back at home in front of our supporters especially when the crowd are behind you it can really make a huge difference and if we can show a bit more of a spark and cutting edge in front of goal then we will be in for a positive afternoon.

“Reflecting on Saturday I think for most of the game we got out of it what we wanted to achieve, we stamped our authority onto it early on, we had a lot of good spells, but I think we were just lacking that final ball and that bit of quality on the final product.

“We didn’t create that much but we still had two very good opportunities, but it was the final ball whether it was the cross or the shot which let us down but I know that will come with more minutes under our belts, but we definitely felt solid in our shape, we didn’t concede many chances against a good front three, so we were quite pleased performance wise against a tough opposition but of course were disappointed with the result and we just need to keep working on the cutting edge especially in the final third.”

The R’s centre half added: “I think our game plan worked on their attacking areas, we certainly felt that we dealt with their threats, we forced the ball into areas on the pitch where they wouldn’t be able to get their key players on the ball and I think we did a good job in that sense.

“I think if we can be as solid as that out of possession there aren’t many sides in this division which would break us down, their goal wasn’t really a chance it came from a long effort and the way it goes sometimes their effort went in whilst Ossie’s hit the bar.

“All managers want deal with whatever the biggest threat is, of course some managers are more successful than others I think it worked for us on Saturday regarding our shape, but it doesn’t matter who you are playing you don’t want their front three to get the ball, you want it as far away from your defending third as possible.

“Our shape will remain consistent against whoever we are playing, we have been working all pre-season on what we want to achieve without the ball, and we can be encouraged by how it worked for us on Saturday.”

The R’s welcome Middlesbrough to Loftus Road this weekend for the first clash of the 2022/23 SkyBet Championship campaign back in W12 and Dickie admits that he can’t wait to get going in the capital.

He explained: “We respect every side in this division, but we aren’t fazed by anyone especially coming to our home, we are really looking to seeing the supporters again, of course I missed a few games towards the back end of last season so I can’t wait to play in front of the home crowd once again and hopefully we can get the result we all want.

Beyond Our Wilderest Dreams
Wilder happy.jpg

Although frustrated at the general stagnation in the transfer market and his desire to get players over the line - Chris Wilder is a happier man today than the one who entered the front door back in November last year. We are beginning to see the emergence of his team and style: solidifying its own unique identity, with a swagger and level of fitness we havent seen in a long time.

At his Media Conference today [Friday], he pointed to the aridity in the transfer market - across the board. Strikers, in particular, are in short supply. He believes we will "see a mad dash" in the final week of the transfer window. "Clubs are playing their cards close to their chest".

He exercised caution: not getting carried away with focusing on particular players he wants, emphasising that "Im part of a [recruitment] group here". "Clubs are doing stuff - every other Manager [is] in the same boat".

"This is the toughest transfer window I have ever worked in".

But he wont be giving up anytime soon.
"I`ll keep pushing and pushing".
"I aint gonna make any apologies [to the recruitment team]. Im going to push and push"
"Steve didnt bring us [Wilder and his team] to float about in mid-table."

"I`m a selfish Manager - like a kid in a sweet shop..." "that`s why I`m three stone overweight"........

Asked about a number of players reportedly linked to the club, all he would say was that "bids have been put in" - we`l leave it there!
He repeated that Ikpeazu is "away training by himself" and isnt in the picture to play again for the Boro. Chris was fairly certain that he will find a club before the window closes.

Challenged about Tav and his loss to the team: Wilder was blunt and left assembled journalists in no doubt:

"There will be no change of shape. I wish Tav all the best.
Tav`s gone and we readjust. We are a team.
It would be disrespectful to the other players" [to just focus on him].
"Thats the last question about Tav"!

An acknowledgement to Boro Fans:

There may be only a few hundred away fans in the top corner when players come out of the tunnel, but "when you cast an eye to the right...players know their responsibility".
"It gives me a tingle" - seeing and hearing Boro fans support home and away.

As for the QPR game: Paddy and Dael are available. He sees there being little change to the team put out at three o`clock on Saturday.
Bring it on.
