No one predicted in Chuba Akpom, Boro would have the highest League Scorer in the Championship by Christmas. But we`ve seen the rebirth of a player who was nearly thrown out the door in the summer. Earlier in the season, some of us speculated whether spending millions££££`s on a "proven" striker was the answer to our scoring drought? In front of our own eyes we didnt realise we had a diamond - with the right handling and coaching - who has flourished and is having the time of his life. Whilst reporters write reams about the likes of Ben brereton-Diaz, Victor Gyokeres and Jay Rodrigues, our Chuba has quietly crept into the picture: no banner headlines. No swank. Just a new found consistency and self - confidence and a good team around him.

What better way to top off a good first-half of the season than with a hat-trick at home on Boxing Day! Michael Carrick said in his most recent media conference, that he knew nothing of Chuba`s history before he arrived at the Riversaide about two months ago. What he [Carrick] did say, was that his instincts and experience identified a player with the skills, the correct mentality, dedication, the right attitude and perseverence, to make the grade. Chuba has a slightly different role - where he adds a lot more to the team than being "striker". His midfield play, feeding the ball to others, coming into holes in opposition defences and bringing the ball from places like the half-way line! Hes creating his own goals - saying [watch me! I`l get this one!]. Hes becoming a menace to opposition defences. He also pulls players out wide - giving us more space to exploit.

In Blackburn, they have Ben Brereton-Diaz. Hes on 9 goals for the season, but is 5th in the current Championship top scorers. Chuba looked humbled when he received the match ball for his hat-trick on Boxing Day. But lets hope its the first of many this season. Bring on "Big Ben" andBlackburn Rovers!

Up The Mighty Boro!

Daniel Ayala wants double delight as Rovers gear up for back-to-back Ewood Park contests.
Ayala's old employers Middlesbrough make the journey from the north-east tomorrow night for the first of two East Lancashire encounters.
Following that, Cardiff City bring in 2023 when Mark Hudson's Bluebirds trek from south Wales for the 12pm kick-off in the north-west on New Year's Day.And having suffered defeats in cup and league in the last two home matches, Ayala's backing Rovers to come out all guns blazing for the upcoming double-header. “We are quite strong at home and we were hurt in our last game at Ewood so the aim is to put things right," the experienced Spaniard told RoversTV when looking ahead to the encounters against the Teessiders and the Welsh outfit.

“It’s hard to take when you lose in front of the fans, especially at home. I’m sure we’ll be back to winning ways soon.
“We have to keep going. There are going to be bumps along the way during the second half of the season, that’s what happens, we’ll have to grind out some results.
“Let’s see where we are when the end of the season comes."

Ayala thinks he might see a few familiar faces?
Lets hope hes familiar with a few more when the final whistle goes - especially Chuba Akpom`s!

We've got a terrible record against them.

One of my least anticipated fixtures. I dread playing this lot.
All goes back to that fat chuffer Simon Garner who perpetually seemed to score against us, our single handed destruction at the hands of Noel Brotherston and Kevin Moran clocking Nicky Mohan then scoring the winner.
Then 3 points.

😡🤮☠️

14th January 1997: Boro Deducted 4 Points For "No Show" Against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park!

Bryan Robson described the decision as the 'harshest penalty' with the deduction leaving Boro four points adrift at the bottom of the league
1672304059833.png

25 years have passed, but the anger remains.
The decision to deduct Boro three points on this day in 1997 was “right and fair”, or so we were told.
Furious fans disagreed - so did Bryan Robson. How far he would have taken that Boro side had they survived that year is a topic forever up for discussion. One thing not up for discussion was the club’s belief that they had been hard done by.
“It is the harshest penalty that could possibly have been given to this football club,” groaned Robbo.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but how Robson will have wished he put a team out at Ewood Park that day. They’d have been better off on the receiving end of a 5-0 hammering. Instead, with 23 players on the sick-bed, Keith Lamb ring in sick for Boro. Naive? Maybe.
But nobody at the club could have foreseen what was to come.
IMG_6651JPG.jpg

It was Boro’s naivety and honesty that resulted in them having to pay such a high price, wrote Eric Paylor in his Gazette column the day after the FA’s verdict.

“They were naive in believing that they could call off a Premiership match without first asking for permission,” said Eric.
“And they were too honest in stating that 23 professionals were ill or injured, but another 17 were fit.
“They should have declared that 30 were unavailable, and only 10 fit.
“It would have solved the matter immediately.”
The punishment left Boro marooned at the bottom of the Premier League table, four points adrift of second-bottom Southampton.
A 1-0 defeat at home to the Saints three days earlier had been hard to take but nothing compared to this latest blow for Robson and his squad.

Without a goal or a point in their last three attempts, hopes of survival were slim.
But the fact Boro rallied so impressively, ending the season just two points shy of safety, made the points deduction even harder to accept.

Their message board makes for interesting reading. Despite the fantastic record they have against us most are expecting a comfortable defeat. You’d think they were 3rd bottom not 3rd top.

Boro at a canter
One theme that comes from message boards is fans seem to pessimistic no matter where they are ha!

How much negativity did this board have during the Karnaka championship years despite riding high

Oh it exists here now - reading the Board after Burnley game for example. And just read here if we lose tonight

Who Are Ya?

1672327018448.png
Jon Dahl Tomasson
Blackburn Manager

Tomasson retired at the age of 35 to take up his first coaching role at Excelsior Rotterdam in the Dutch Leagues. He began his football career as a youth at Koge in Copenhagen. In 1994 aged 18 he moved to SC Heerenveen in Holland, making 78 appearances, scoring 37 goals.
1672327560058.png
In 1997 he signed for the Skunks. A move he must have surely regretted?
Only 23 appearance and three goals later, he left at the end of that season.

1672327925894.png
He went on to play for Feyenoord [twice], Milan, Fb Stuttgart and Villareal.
During his playing career, amongst many other honours, he won the UEFA Cup, UEFA Champions League and Coppa Italia.
In all, he made 45o appearances and scored

index.jpg
From 1997 to 2010 he played for the Danish National Team - making a credible 112 appearances and scoring 52 goals. It goes without saying, as a player he proved his pedigree.

Before taking up from where Tony Mowbray left off, Tomasson spent a year as Coach at Malmo - one of Sweden`s most successful football clubs [remember Forest beating them in the European Cup in 1979]. In June this year he signed a 3-year contract with Rovers. He first game was at home and ended in a 1-0 win against QPR.

Despite them being 18th in the overall form table, they are second in the home form table (won 5, lost 1), but we are top of the away form (won 4, lost 2). Could be an interesting game

Blackburn - Recent Results - Analysis.
They are not as good as we think they are.

Although they are currently 3rd , Blackburn have stumbled recently and are far more vulnerable than their lofty position suggests. 8 points off second place Sheffield United they are only 6 points above the mighty Boro. During the three games so far in December, Rovers have scored 2 and conceded 6.
1672330195424.png
A characteristic of their season so far is inconsistency.
The gap in the Championship table, between 3rd and 17th [Stoke City 30 points] is a total of 9 points.
That says a lot about the Championship and how tight the race is than about Blackburn`s quality.
The last time they strung 2 wins together was back in October, including relegation-threatened Hull City.
