* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Birmingham City Match-Day Thread *

Good result, but still the same problems (silly mistakes and lack of composure playing from the back).

Hopefully it ends up as a confidence booster.

Hackneys energy in the middle helped, and could actually tell he was on the pitch, unlike with Mowatt.

Will have been easier for Birmingham to set up, with Jones out, as we only ended up with a one sided threat (Giles). They were happy for us to have it on the right, but we didn’t do much with it.

Steffen man of the match for me, he couldn’t have played any better 👌 not many saves to make, but great on crosses, handling and sweeping up.
Agree a faultless performance from Steffan and really positive on crosses

We switched off at the back a few too many times for my liking.. short corners and pull backs to the edge of the box caught us out every time.

A better team would have punished us tonight but we rode our luck and we take a much needed 3 points.

Agree re Forss.. really put himself about and made a proper nuisance of himself when he came on.

Here’s hoping we continue to improve!

Poor on the ball. Defence did well. Good three points. Mcgree needs to start. Best footballer we have. Djiksteel was awful, id play mcnair or Howson as wingback ahead of him. Good subs by Leo and the boys.

Hard working win , not pretty but who cares. Thought we were less cavalier than wilder. Less of sweeper keeper, Overlapping centre backs were absent. We took less chances of being caught on the break. Defenders defended as theyre supposed to do and let midfield and fowards do the attacking.

Totally agree with this. Not keen on McNair being in the back line he always loses someone. Got away with it tonight

An honest, hard-working win. Not cohesive really. Nervous. Birmingham started well and threatened in phases.
we looked a bit light on confidence but the win will help a lot. A side who were not playing for their manager.
we got Chris wrong. He didn't really want to be here, I guess.
Leo was immense - but not the next manager. We are the better for Leo though and should keep that in mind

Nervy and not the 2-1 win I predicted at all, but in the current circumstances and not having Jones in side perhaps killed our chance of maybe getting that 2nd goal to kill the game ... was getting a bit tetchy at the back, and around the pitch, I thought there was going to be a red card! Haha

Great for Leo and the boys though, a clean sheet despite looking nervous which is understandable ... It is a start, and if we can keep picking up points while we wait for the new man to take over, then great. Though I think we are lacking so badly in one or two positions, I was pleased to see Hackney get a look in ... fair play to the lad he looked OK from what I saw. I am just worried the life has been drained out of our defenders by the Wilder breakdown in relationships and whatever else went on, the lads who were here before Wilder who I would normally trust more ... it's heart in mouth at times lately, I hope they get back to as good as they know they can be.

One step at a time. I hope the next guy in is the right choice as we're at a stage now where if it is another mess, we're in serious bother as a club. I am hoping the silence so far, though Edwards seems nailed on from most reports, means that some more interesting names have come into the fray which Gibbo is waiting for answers on and willing to trust Leo for the interim :);)

Well done to Leo too personally btw, I know how much he will have enjoyed that and be over the moon that we didn't bottle it towards the end ... must admit at half-time I did not see us not conceding but way got through it.

Well done Boro, that was needed. Three points and a clean sheet, job done. UTFBX

We played to our strengths tonight.
Not perfect - but so what.
A lot better than recent weeks.
22,000+ was a surprise - it shows we give a monkeys, with or without a Manager.
Curiousity didnt kill the cat tonight - it made it greedy for more.
A win away at Millwall would be nice!

Good to see Paddy and Dael reunited at the back. They were like two old blokes in a pub having a wet and craic about old times.

All the lads looked like they had a weight lifted off their shoulders - as if the past months they were under pressure to play a certain way.

Johnny was excellent - in spite of his ageing [football] years. Hackney is a great lad - appears to have had a few good dinners since he last sat on the bench for us. Forss needs to start the next game. What a flippin waste keeping the lad out the picture. Fast. Agile. Quick thinker. Rockets in his boots. Get him on from the start!

The boys in the South stand are writing another song - because Crooks doesnt score belters all the time [for now] and he looks far off his best. It doesnt Matter what Wilder said about Paddy McNair - because Paddy looked the full monty tonight - without the love of an ex-Manager!

Jones should be on the bench next game. Hes looked jaded at times this season - and he needs to fight for his place on the starting list.

One last thought?
Leo has a 100% record - could this give Gibson a little more time to find the next manager - even though Liddle and Tinkler have their own jobs to do?
Perhaps the threesome can work something out until Mr or Ms "Promise land" arrive?
Who knows.

Three points!

Wilder won't have watched last night but if he did he would have been fuming.

Birmingham had a a fair few shots on goal from pull backs, the type that all seemed to fly in the net this season under Wilder.

We carried lots more luck last night than we generally have lately.

Still, better to have a lucky general than a good one.
