Watched last night and it's a fantastic film... SBC much better in this than any borat film, imho...

Mark rylance is very good too...

I watch it last week, thought it was great. Amusing in parts and outrageous in others. I thought the judge was funny, for all the wrong reasons.

the judge was amusing but if you read up on the true facts of what the judge did the film was an accurate reflection. Needless to say his contempt of court sentences even for the defence attorney were quickly overturned. However he continued to sit as a judge until everybody realised he was senile and was relieved of his duties.

did you see the write up at the end of where everyone ended up in their future lives - 78% of solicitors thought the judge was not fit to practice. Says quite a lot about him - and well done to the DA for calling a mistrial for the Black Panther - the treatment he received was disgusting and in a court of so called law.

Salford the bit that caught my eye was the protestor who went on to write a best selling book, only they don't know how many are in circulation because the book was called "Steal this book". Pure genius.

The hippy duped by the undercover agent girl eventually got killed trying to cross an interstate in LA.

Just as tragic that Abbie, SBC’s character, in later years commuted suicide. Suffered with huge OCD issues.

Found it incredible how the testimony of the former Attorney General of the USA (played by Michael Keaton) was dismissed as irrelevant. A sham trial with jury tampered with, corrupt judge and false witnesses. And USA was indeed still held up as a panacea for democracy and justice even then.

there is something in the deep dark recess of my mind that says I have heard that story before but not sure how or where I read it. it SBC character Abbi that wrote the book

does anyone know if the pacifist really punched the court bailiff or not, to get someone like that so riled up to go against everything they stand for truly shows how messed up that case was.

the one stand out funny bit is when their solicitor says "you're a pacifistic and say out world war two even I want to punch you"

Good article on David Dellinger here - written on his death in 2004. Certainly he was being manhandled out of the court room where he broke free from the officials to comfort his watching children who were crying at seeing him being treated that way.

Watched this last night and really enjoyed it. Extra level of interest for me living in Chicago obviously, especially as Grant Park and the surrounding areas were 10 minutes from where I was living this time last year so I saw a lot of this being filmed (all the old cars were parked up near Grant Park and there were extras in police uniforms wandering round Starbucks etc every day).

thanks for the link Abel that was a very interesting read. Good to know a lot about his background and what else he had been up to during that time. A man who believed in his principles and stuck to them.

They were actually a remarkable group of men. From different backgrounds and pressure groups coming together for a cause. Treated inhumanely and fighting against corrupt officials including the law their efforts deserve more recognition than they perhaps received over the years. This film is excellent.
