Watched the DVD review of the season Merse was here and wow, some of his assists and goals. Absolutely fantastic

Personally think Merse is overhyped by some. He was fantastic obviously but it was in the championship and he had some quality players around him. Claims he single handedly got us promoted are nonsense, the team was littered with proven premier league players.
All about opinions of course (kind of the point of the thread!) and he'd probably still make my top ten still. But some put him in the same bracket as Juninho which is way off the mark IMO.

I remember been at work one Saturday morning & reading the morning paper headlines that we were to sign Merson
I couldnt believe us signing such a big player in his prime & from a big club in Arsenal
He was certainly a quality signing & a cushion for losing Juninho
Mind I could say the same about the signing of JFH, another incredible signing
