Is this local vocabulary or used nationally? When your brain can't find the correct noun. "You know, thingy from down the road" or "pass us the thingy"

I hear Robbie Williams is forming a new band with a couple of aussies but can't decide on a name.. "Thingy Wotsit" sounds strangely AUS....
