Seems odd that in an age when the printed medium is struggling so much that a new printed local paper is to be produced.

Must admit I've never seen the online versions of The Tees until today. Be interesting to see how it fares and what it's angle is.

Don't know if it's a charged for or a free paper?

Not seen anything about this. Need to have a look.

Also noticed the linked a Discover Teesside playlist on Spotify with local artists

Was this the “project” Expo claimed to be an advisor on? If so, God help them! Brave move, as display advertising, the driver of revenue on a lot of papers- is in decline. A lot of industry observers believe this will continue to be the death knell of hard copy publications

Newsprint is very cheap. Print costs have hardly changed since I first took over fmttm. People still buy books, magazines and national papers. If it wasn't for the fact local papers and media in general were in the hands of giant multinationals you would suspect they would have far more success as printed media.

Rather nieve view there. Lots of people read online- so sales of papers continue to decline. Marketing managers - who would once spend their budget without any real reasoning now look for ROI - return on investment. Online is taking a far larger part of budget as it generally cheaper than print and is completely transparent in terms of response.

Having worked in publishing for many a year I am acutely aware of the challenges facing the print industry.
