The Spectator's damning analysis of current Tory Party

......."Beyond this, Britain looks forward to running out of water and electricity. Infrastructure projects that could have alleviated these problems have been bandied around and frustrated for decades, and little can be done to turn this around on short notice. Yet equally, there is limited planning now for the threats in future decades. They say the best time to plant a tree was ten years ago, and the second-best time is today. In Britain, the second-best time to begin is after three preliminary reports, two judicial reviews and a general election. The best time is never."..............

It is a superb article, particularly as it's coming from a conservative writer and published in the Spectator. It was originally published in John Oxley's Substack and the Spectator has chosen to republish it, which I think is significant. It's almost a cry of despair from the thinking end of the Conservative support.

It's even more surprising given the 'Barclay brothers' (now brother, after the passing of David) unwavering support for BJ, both in getting him elected and supporting him as PM.

The Telegraph's reputation as a leading broad sheet is now a distant memory.

I didn't imagine that then? Used to get it on a Saturday for the sports section when Henry Winter worked for them. Scanning through the rest of it, and accepting it was Tory biased, nothing radical jumped out.
Now when I see its headlines on t'internet (thankfully can't read them 'cos of the paywall) it seems to be a full on, foaming at the mouth, hard brexit, culture war, right wing rag.
Lad I go to the match with reads it and the stuff he trots out sometimes I'm sure comes straight from its pages ........... taking the knee/Marxism blah, blah ......... Sturgeon blah, blah. He voted remain so what he makes of its Brexit fantasy stories god knows and I daren't ask.

I won't sully my eyeballs by visiting the Spectator site but suffice to say they have championed the right-wing neo-lib policies that have led us exactly to where we are now.

So fcuk them.

Reaping and sowing springs to mind.

I'll second the last line - f*ck them.

No you didn't - my mother-in-law gets it and I am the same as you in that I only really ever read the sports section, but the other stuff in there wasn't that radical as you say - the Business section was always remarkably 'sensible' (relatively) but definitely since 2016 it's just turned into a broadsheet Mail/Express gutter rag.

I concur entirely.
Is this a sign that the Ruling Class are divided about who is going to protect their interests in the midst of an economic and environmental disaster and earth "catching fire"?

It's not ea

I don’t think the ruling classes are too bothered beyond staying in charge and ensuring they keep their money.

They will be able to buy fuel, water and food no matter what.

Its beyond that:
Refering more to the macro-picture. Anything as big as the energy "crisis" and "climate crisis" threatens their system and their wealth.
People may even begin to believe a humanitarian, caring, compassionate, system of existence is possible? [OMG! Whatever next?!}
