The season should never have restarted.

How would not playing the last few games have been fair?
Because the season would not have been finished with teams weakened due to contractual issues with players, loss of perceived home advantage, or completing games under conditions and rules (or laws, whatever) that are different to the games completed earlier in the season before it was delayed.

We have been severely weakened. Other teams have not. It's not been in our control. It was completely wrong to restart the season and in my mind it was simply done to fulfill TV and sponsorship committments.

Oh and by the way, it wasn't the "last few games". It was 9 games, roughly 20%, or a fifth of the season. And the business end.

I doubt Charlton fans would have agreed with you on that. There was no “fair” way”. Actually playing the games is surely the closest thing to “fair” though.

Why discuss the fans? We can't even go to the games. Us fans are the last to be considered. It wasn't about fans, it was about TV and money.

But as seen as you mentioned Charlton fans, I take it you're suggesting they would not have been happy with relegation? Well I believe that the season should have been voided completely, no promotion, no relegation.

The season finished differently to the one that started.

Well you’re entitled to your opinion, but I can’t see any logic in it. Plus, even if we’ve been disadvantaged (other clubs Have lost players), we’ll be staying up anyway. 👍

I agree with size 10 on this.

I do wonder if it would have been restarted if ,say, Leicester City had been clear at the top of the premier or, say, Preston had been top in the Championship. Whether we agree with it or not Liverpool and Leeds are seen as glamour clubs so it has been worth it to the Sky people and the football authorities to see those clubs crowned despite the debacle of watching soulless football matches played without any fans.

The Championship is a mess though, I think the legal battles which are inevitably going to follow will possibly delay the start of next season.

T10 makes a good point you could argue that we’ve lost ayala gestede shotton 3 key first team/squad players all due to the season being extended.

I don’t see other sides as hard hit as we have been, contractually.

We only have one centre half in the senior squad.

To be fair atypical, I've given quite a bit of logical reasoning in my posts above. I just don't think you want to recognise any of them, which is fine.

I don’t not want to recognise them, i just don’t agree that the fairest way to finish a season was to not finish the season

Plus he’s right as well there’s no way we’d play so many games back to back under normal circumstances. This has hit us very hard given our anemic squad.

I dont think playing with weakend teams was fair. But there was no fair way other than null n void for me. Which is where doing it for the premier league kicked in. Having different rules for other divisions was also against the spirit. Null n void for me. Money is not everything

I agree too

Even though it would be ridiculous to view Boro’s plight as a test of “fairness” across the board, has anyone actually noticed that we’re higher in the league than we were before the restart?

I think the argument for not restarting has gone now! It was all going to depend on how well we did.

Unless some people are still obsessed with "TV money"

Glad the season is being played out properly.
