The ruination of my marriage. Or how I delved back into Football Manager 2020.

After 5 years away, during which time I discovered I really missed it, I've taken the plunge and jumped back into the world of football management. Not since the heady days of taking such players as Tonton Zola Moukoko, Andriy Sigporsson and Mark Kerr from relative obscurity to Champions League winners, have I felt such excitement towards the start of a new season. Welcome to the new Boro Manager, Hew Jarse.

Jarse is hugely experienced and brings such skills as excessive tea drinking, mastery of laziness and an absolute stone cold belief in his ability to turn good players into mediocre ones. It promises to be an interesting season.

First order of business is to get the Director of Football fulfilled and sack Robbie Keane, then onwards to meet the players.

First team meeting highlights some good young players, but a lack of real depth in attacking areas.

The high potential players are going to see a lot of game time.

However, in order to address this, the coaching needs to be improved. Technical and Strength coaching are the first orders of business.

Contracts are out for new additional coaches, in the meantime, the first squad for a behind the door's friendly is done against the under 23's. Several injuries and missing personnel have slightly hampered the tactics.

2-0 up at half time courtesy of an Ashley Fletcher brace and its time to give some other lads game time.

5-1 at the end in an expected performance. Gestede scoring what he thought was the goal of the game with a bullet header, only to be outdone by Fletcher, with a rip snorter of a 35 yard rocket into the top corner giving U23 keeper Flatters no chance. Moukoudi had a solid game in defence, but Ayala went wandering a few times and that will have to be addressed.

Ayala left of a back 3, McNair left wingback.

square pegs round holes.

I’ll give you 10 games and the axe will be wielded.

Ive got CM 03/04 on the pc, the mighty Boro have won the league, CL and Club World Cup 18 years in a row.

There are some injuries at the moment, McNair played in place of Coulson who is injured along with Friend. Shotton came in for Fry, hence Ayala being moved to the left of the back three. Not permanent changes, but necessary for the formation.

So, the first new additions are in (thank you Portsmouth). Dave Wright and Mark Chamberlain have signed as coaches for the first team. Focus is on technical ability. Next up is to improve the defensive aspect.

when will the league table be lying?

Another friendly against CSKA Moscow. Two changes, Johnson comes in for McNair at wing back, and Clayton replaces Howson in midfield after his indifferent performance against the U23's.

a 0-2 defeat by the Russian club. Fletcher and Tavernier had good link up play and Johnson was useful down the left hand side, but imperious Igor Akinfeev ensured CSKA kept a clean sheet.

I’m 14 points clear after 15 games, undefeated in 116 and on course for 19 in a row.

Clearly a much more realistic outcome. 😂

Loving this thread and really tempting me to get back into FM! Last was 2012 version....Took Boro to FA Cup win and Champions League...
