If you take a moving average over 4 days then look at the rate of increase in Spain we started off at about 4. The idea is the number needs to get down to 1. After what we have done so far Spain is now down to 1.92.

Still further to go. However we are on the right track with our pretty hard lock down.

Mind you the latest video coming out of Madrid is horrific. Not enough ventilators. So they are taking them away from people aged over 65. Then just having to let the people die.

New York has gone from doubling every 2.5 days, to every 3 days to every 4 days. They see that as good progress with a peak in about 3 weeks. They have about 3x the ICU beds and ventilators that we have and looking to double/treble those figures in weeks, not months.
 
Could this sharp rise come on the back of last weeks fire sale in the pubs and a day trip to the seaside along panic buying by the hordes, just a thought.
 
Agree there is no sure way of knowing but testing rate is rising at a lower rate than infection rate.
