* The Original - Unofficial "Official" Boro v Sheffield United. Match-Day Thread *

These last 4 performances are the best I've seen a Boro team play since the days of Mendietta, JFH, Viduka, Southgate, Boateng et al.

I'd go so far as saying on this form, this team would beat Karanka's promotion winning team.
We are absolutely class and playoff bound, but that Boro team were outstanding defensively, and dominated possession. Remember they almost set the record for consecutive clean sheets.

This Boro team are miles better going forward, and it would be a very entertaining game, but very tight. I think there needs to be a thread on a combined XI. Imo you'd have more players from the 15/16 team

Maybe a bit under the radar, but also glad to see10 man Preston hold Luton, and Blackburn equalise in the last minute at WBA.

All going out way just now.

Interesting that their fans are so rattled. They really seem worried.
next two games could be pivotal.
Squeaky bums ?

I think we're a little too far away for automatic promotion. But that breathing space away from 7th is needed and we're definitely the form side now. We just need to keep that going.

Last season away to Sheff United felt like the point where the wheels came off on our push for the playoffs and I had a fear that was going to happen again. What a great result. Even if we miss out on promotion, I'm confident of our chances in the playoffs.

Good grief. I almost lumped a load on Sheff Utd to win BTTS tonight, returns seemed far too generous so thought it was buying money. Last minute bottled it, and **** me I am glad I did as it'd have ruined me ..

Boro, wow. I can't believe my eyes. Archer, I wish I realised just what a gem of a player we'd managed to sign at the time he was announced. This guy, Christ. Even before he got his first goal I thought this guy is essential, people can't cope with him. His finishing since he got his first, was just sublime. Considering the striker woes we have had over the years, seeing the goals he and Akpom are putting away at the minute.. I am just blown away. I am wondering at times, how did we even get Archer?? He is THAT good.

I have no doubt at all now if Carrick had a full season with us we'd be going up automatically. I am still niggled by the fact the lottery of the playoffs can be so unfair at times, but it is what it is.

That said, this side at the moment .. of all the teams below us I perhaps fear Luton the most at the minute (assuming we end up in the play-offs) but if we close that gap down and finish second, then I hope people start crowdfunding for a statue of Michael Carrick outside the Riverside!

I loved it when Heckingbottom was sent off. The icing on the cake!
This is the best Boro side I have seen at the level it is playing currently by a million miles in my time.

I am usually the first on here to have a dig or a groan, but Carrick has dragged that pessimism out of me and then some. This is an excellent side and to think there are reinforcements to come, no doubt .. not that we are crying out for anything currently as they are all doing so well and merit their place. The likes of McGree have grown into a special player, the one that he hoped and he is still so young. Seems the planets are aligning for the Boro ... finally. Bringing Hackney through a massively proud moment for the club, and he has worked so hard to keep his place in the side. I am looking forward to seeing the next one to come through.

I hope we can buy Giles permanently.

Anyway, it ain't over yet, though. But we will be fine. We're going up. Michael Carrick, I want to marry you.

Well I’m glad you know how it’s going to pan out
Ha. I hope I don't!! I just think that with a 7 point gap and the game in hand, they'll have enough points to see it through.
That said, I think Sheffield United still have to play most of the top ten teams, and looking on their forum some of their fans don't seem too confident.

I agree with most of that, but the play-offs are still a bit of a lottery. Statistically the team in third do win most often, but not enough to make me confident!!

This made me smile, off the Sheffield United forum:
"
Well-done boro Carrick seems a nice guy , doing a unbelievable job on where they were when he took over

Previous Boro manager must have been toss 🤣 "

FACT:

Boro are now the SECOND TOP Goalscorers in the Championship with 53 GOALS!
One goal above Blades and nine behind Burnley!
