The NHS contact-tracing app

Apart from highlighting the fact that, because the government is not working with Apple-Google, the app is likely to drain everyone's batteries, I particularly liked this extract of the linked Sky News article:

But, as the University of Cambridge's Professor Ross Anderson wrote, allowing people to self-report that they are showing COVID-19 symptoms could encourage them to abuse the system by making false reports.

"Anyone who's worked on abuse will instantly realise that a voluntary app operated by anonymous actors is wide open to trolling," said Professor Anderson.

"The performance art people will tie a phone to a dog and let it run around the park; the Russians will use the app to run service-denial attacks and spread panic; and little Johnny will self-report symptoms to get the whole school sent home."

They should just be using the South Korean one as it's worked. It should be a requirement to use on public transport and for entrances into restaurants etc. It will not only keep people safe but also give people confidence to start going to public places again. As we've seen in china people are reluctant to do this even with the app. It will also prove vital for workers in care homes etc. South Korea does not use self reporting, but has a much lower base of virus circulation. We really need to get the transmission down and then copy this rather than it flagging up everytime you've come into contact with someone who has a runny nose.

The idea that this is some kind of Orwellian nightmare seems ridiculous to me in an age where every website I look at is tracked and Google maps can tell me when I last visited every place I go to. The government is at least beholden to the people every five years or so, the others who you have surrendered your data to are not.

And the stuff about "orientals being a more obedient people"

Just watching the BBC .. the way they try and sell this app is state propaganda simple as that.

It might be used to reduce the queues to get into Morrison’, all you have to do is Falsely say you have tested positive, and when someone’s APP picks it up, they will all scatter 😮

Testing everyone's temperature would have been very simple to do as they enter facilities, but 99% of places haven't bothered even A & E departments. I actually wanted people to test my temperature as long as everyone else was being tested.

With this app will everyone really self isolate if they get a warning.

To avoid people not doing it have a chip inserted under their skin that they can't remove like we do with dogs?
