Was the poor lad on loan to Port Vale last night a victim of the trend ?
There appears to have been a few more of these ' nasty gash ' injuries of late

Needs to be a minimum size of shin pad to stop these clowns putting themselves in danger.

The problem is, kids are copying them now. There is no official rule on the size of a shin pad so individual clubs and leagues are going to have to come up their own policies to prevent a huge increase in leg breaks

Look at the state of these.

Law 4:

Shinguards

are covered entirely by the socks

are made of a suitable material (rubber, plastic or similar substances)

provide a reasonable degree of protection

I guess the bottom line allows the ref a certain amount of discretion to say whether or not they are going to accept a mini shin pad, but why leave it up to the referee?

Come on, how many of us have turned out with an old newspaper down your socks to pull the wool over the ref's eye or is it only me? ;) 🤣🤣

Even a very thin and flexible pad covering the whole of the shin bone would be better than the matchbox sized ones they seem to be using these days. They shouldn't affect control or movement in any way either.

I was in full RoboCop Sondico get up in the hayday of 'middle of the park enforcer '
Looked like a stormtrooper from the knee down 😂😂

I think if I didn’t wear proper shin pads when I played I’d have no legs left, the amount of kicks in Sunday league particularly when your faster than the other player.
I guess it’s different in the professional game especially at the top as players have more protection.

This is the problem though isn't it. You don't see Premier league players flying in with dangerous 2 footers (or very rarely) but it's common in the junior game or Sunday league. Players need proper protection

They should definitely set a minimum standard for what constitutes a shinpad, because some of them are just taking the ****.

The likes of Jack Grealish who spend most of their career complaining about being kicked whilst wearing a wafer thin mint for protection.

I remember when I was about 17, being forced to be subbed because the water logged pitch soaked the velcro so badly on my shinnies they wouldn't fasten. I wouldn't have dreamt of playing with these little things, I'd have no shins left.

Tackling is pretty much banned in the PL so they probably don't need the protection. It's just fashion to have small shinpads though. They can't be more comfortable than something fitted.

The whole socks being torn because they are too tight on the calf is the same nonsense. I even noticed a keeper doing it recently.
