The Last of Us TV Show

I just feel, given we’re only 3 episodes in, the time for “spin offs” is later. I’m not saying episode 3 was a spin off, and I hope it wasn’t personally.
Well it’s hbo. Hbo are the pinnacle of tv series. They recently did a spin off with house of the dragons and I say they absolutely nailed that

I disagree mind that episode 3 was teeing up a spin off. The story was told in that 50 mins. It they spin off from that they wouldn’t be being true to it

In addition the back story for them 2 was needed to know why they got the car. After reflecting Frank was integral to bill opening up to tess and Joel so for me the episode was a necessity. Puts context to the code on the radio

Too many zombies shoes people get would just find a working car in an abandoned town, this gives us the full context, whilst giving the fans of the game bill still in it

Have to say I'm hoping the opposite. I'd like more little vignettes throughout the series. Seen a few posts where you're saying it didn't progress the main story, but what if the main story is the world they're all in rather than just Joel and Ellie's journey from A to B?

Having said that I played the game years ago and don't really remember if there's many more characters that could get the same sort of attention.

while its no gay romance, the brothers Henry and Sam will be next I imagine

After that Joel will meet back up with Tommy and his wife - I'd expect we'll get some development on these

Then it will be the winter / cannibals of David's group

Then I'd probably expect a couple of episodes on Marlene and the fireflies at the end

Be interesting to see how they deal with those. I doubt we'll get whole episode treatment like frank and bill, but will hopefully be some extra development.

I thought it was a good episode.
Definitely not the best so far, I don't get why people were reporting it was going to be?

Enjoying the way they are fleshing out the characters with my only knowledge of the last of us been various YouTube videos.

they also had to update the angle of Frank and bills story as I read they were a bit unhappy with how they presented it - keeping it a secret and referring to him as a partner, Ellie finding the gay porno mag etc, so this was a chance to rewrite it entirely

I just meant that if episode 3 is serving as a “spin off” of sorts for the game players (who want to know more about Frank and Bill) then it isn’t going to enhance the series for non-gamers.

HBO's The Last of Us TV series continues to put up big viewership numbers. The much-loved "Long Long Time" episode--which focused on Bill and Frank and deviates significantly from the source material--reached 6.4 million people for its Sunday night viewership across HBO and HBO Max.

This is up 12% compared to Episode 2's Sunday night viewership of 5.7 million and it's a 37% increase from the 4.7 million people who watched the series premiere on January 15.

I think you're looking at it wrong, it's a different show from what you might think it is. It's not a copy of TWD.

The plot is secondary to the characters. True in the game it's mostly Joel and Ellie, but there is room for expanding on the other characters that help/hinder them along their journey.

Ep 3 wasn't a 'spin off for gamers', it was telling Bill's story while moving along the main journey. It wasn't just there to 'enhance the series' from J&E view, it IS the series.

Very well put that

Similar to the concept in Stranger Things.

I think they are but maybe in a more local fashion, otherwise anytime someone got seen by an infected the entire planets worth could rush to them and they'd be unstoppable

Think it's going to be more that others infected in the area will become aware of them, increasing the danger

Well that may be so but as I keep saying I am looking at it as a TV series not a TV rehash of a video game. Hard not to make some comparisons with TWD given its about the exact same subject, but yes, I will try not to allow my annoyances from TWD cloud my perspective.

I can't wait to see how they handle the Sam and Henry section in the next episode or two. It was one of my favourite chapters in the game, but also very brutal. If they give it the same sort of attention as they gave Bill and Frank, it could be right up there.

Watched episode 3 today.

A little disappointed as I was expecting the best hour of tv ever. Although it was good, no where near best tv ever. In fact, I found myself looking at my phone half a dozen times.

Didn't live up to the hype IMHO, maybe that was the problem. Dont hype something up too much. Bit like Super "every" Sunday on Sky Sports.

I wasn’t interested in Walking Dead and am not a “gamer”.
I watch this new series without prejudice as my wife is keen. Last nights episode was I thought terrific and moving.
My wife is pretty happy that I’ve got her into, she absolutely loves it from a stand-alone POV

Just watched all 3 episodes in the last 2 days and so far I think it's excellent.

Kind of wish I hadn't watched them though, as waiting for 1 episode a week is brutal - and I'm not a very patient person!

I’ve been enjoying last 6 months when things drop weekly. House of the dragon and TLOU I get a little buzz on Sunday/Monday about it coming out

I love things returning to weekly release, even on streaming.

Builds up the anticipation again and actually lets you discuss and speculate over things with people before the plot overtakes it.

I look forward to every Monday right now.
