The Inheritance Tax Nonsense

Another Tory con, the election is likely to be sooner than later imho. I am going for Spring 2024.

We had a good discussion about this about a month ago when the news leaked about this. Interesting psychology of trying to win over the electorate on a tax the vast majority will simply not have to pay but will ultimately benefit the wealthy.

Wait until Hunt announces tax cuts that benefit the majority of middle England - GE shortly after based on the electorates short term memory and individual greed.

They pretend that they are the Robin Hood party, but in reality, King John had nowt on this bunch of charlatans

The bottom line is people are thick and all they will hear is that if you have assets > £325k you are liable for inheritance tax. It will be explained to them that that is not the case but they will still think they are going to have to pay it. That is because they are thick.

Not just thick, but lied to.

One of the right-wing papers had an article suggesting huge numbers of people would fall into IHT. Their figures included the value of pensions (generally shielded from IHT) and looked at house prices without considering the value of outstanding mortgage debt.

Sadly too thick to realise they are being lied to. Hence Brexit and the decay of the country.

Wait til labour officially announce the removel of the charity status for private schools, the right wing media will go into overdrive to protect the richest

Again an interesting one isn’t it?
The schools do not have to pass the tax on do they?
They make millions and could choose to absorb it - but won’t

Only a matter of time, as I've said before.
The greedy gullible middle englanders will fall for it again and vote tory on another anti-immigration wave.
Appalling..

Including the false assertion that they brought the inflation rate down (which is what I expect they’ll say next Spring)

That's the one I love
Inflation will be down and they will claim the glory

When it went up? 😂 😂
And again, headline figures and banners. Sunak promised to halve inflation, and he will. But as you say why did it end up in a shytestorm in the first place!
I wish there is some way of bypassing these mainstream press headlines to tell the real story.

My guess is that the people who pay inheritance tax are predominately those who leave between £1m and £2m. They have judged it not worth setting up and manging a Trust fund to save £200k to 400k once every 40 years.
