The Holiday Thread

We had a fantastic 6 week tour of France last year in the camper. Father in law not in good health now and we’ve decided to upgrade the camper as well, so might be limited to UK and lots of weekends away.
Our campervan is one of the best things we have bought, the freedom to just up and go anywhere is fantastic.

Thailand in February (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Dao and Koh Kood).

Then short breaks to Romania - Bucharest (stag do), Brasov (wedding) and Krakow later in the year.

I’ve had both Christmas and Thanksgiving in NYC but being honest I preferred it last year when we went in May.

Toronto/Montreal both great places. Toronto seems to be viewed by lots of Brits as nothing special but I absolutely loved it. Feels way more “American style” than Montreal of course, but less risk of being shot. Montreal is great though (we were there for the eclipse).

To me NYC in winter is a completely different city to NYC in summer, although I love them both equally. The only other city like that (that I've experienced) is Berlin which I also love.

Yeah been to both Toronto and Montreal a few times as our friends lived there when we lived in the US, and so we'd visit quite often (they had an apartment in each city and commuted between them).

Managed to go to the Montreal grand prix and not see a single F1 car all weekend, which I'm quite proud of.

I'm sure there'll be plenty of people on here who've been to New York. We have a week spare in August and would quite like to go here. Any advice/recommendations on places to stay things to see, length of stay would be greatly appreciated.

It’s so big you need at least 4 days and you still won’t see it all.
Take very comfy shoes, have deep pockets, beware that menu prices are not the price you’ll pay. Add on tips and tax and you’ll see it’s expensive everywhere.
Times Square is busy and beware of scammers etc. it also stinks of weed.
Other than that, it’s amazing. Look in every direction, including up!!
Buy attraction tickets in 3s or 5s for a cheaper rate before you go.. book time slots for entry.
We bought a 3 attraction ticket for £90
Empire state (daytime slot)
Rockefeller( night slot)
911 museum etc.

The staten island ferry and the walk over the Brooklyn bridge (heading into Manhattan) offer fantastic views, and are both free.

Currently in Lanza, weather ordinary for here. Off to Krakow for a few days in the spring and a Baltic cruise in the summer, not sure about cruises, did one before and it was just ok, last chance this one. Obviously more Lanza trips to come.
