The Good Law Project

Interesting reading from Jolyon Maugham of the Good Law Project this morning on twitter. They're hot on the trail of Barnard Castle's favourite eye test patient who, to the uneducated eye, might look like someone who is siphoning massive amounts of money - and we're talking hundreds of billions of pounds here - from the public purse into the pockets of his friends, including the Prime Minister's half-brother...

I have said this before, some months ago. I wonder if Johnson wanted to be PM to enrich himself by grabbing as much cash as he can for a short period of time, and accepting that he will be forever viewed as the worst prime minister the country has ever seen. The billion or so that he creams off will keep him warm on a night.

Some snippets from that thread. Joylon Maugham QC:

"I have sworn a witness statement explaining the many conversations I have had with businesses who fear commercial reprisals if they challenge Government."

"I have correspondence from serious people - senior academics, business people and lawyers - making allegations I consider plausible of price gouging and corruption including, in respect of a very valuable contract, an explicit demand for a bribe."

"I have worked hard to put this material into the public domain - and the person responsible for the price gouging allegation is talking to a journalist I introduced him to - but those who come to me are very fearful of what will happen to them if their name emerges."

"I also speak privately to senior current and ex-civil servants, some of whom work in highly respected think tanks, who share my alarm about what is happening in Government but prefer not to go public with their fears."

From the replies:

"This methodology, using so many contracts it makes tracing them all, almost impossible, is well explained in Hannah Ardent’s 'The Origins of Totalitarianism' which is both worth reading and quite concerning to read parallels from 90 years ago being used again, today."

If we are not concerned about the way this Government is conducting it's affairs, we should be.
