The Globe, Stockton

Can anyone shed any light on the progress of this building? Seem's to have been going on for a decade now. Is there a completion date in sight?

I don't know but with the other plans for Stockton it would be a real shame if this has gone totally off the rails, real opportunity to capitalise and rejuvenate the town.

I'm all for the globe renovation and high street regeneration but they're contradicting them selves a bit...

They state that we need to move away from the past but then go and try to hold on to it with the globe...

Saying that, anything that gets rid of the castle gate has my vote...

You can get rid of the castle gate but the smell of maynells will linger for many a year after

With it being Grade 2 listed they would have had to repair it I suppose, but £19 million is mad. But once they started they had to complete.
As a music/comedy venue the old Odeon/Glam building would have been better and they're knocking it down now with the old post office to make a 'pocket park' i.e. junkie/ alky hangout.

It'll be fantastic once re-done! They have a venue manager now, so shouldn't be too far of. 2021 was the last update for opening I think?

I'm looking forward to seeing who it can attract once complete.

With the proposed demolition of the Swallow/Castlegate complex hopefully that means some of the empty shops on the High St and Wellington Sq get new tenants. Opening up the riverside can only be a good thing too.

I read somewhere it will sit 3000 which is decent. Bigger than anywhere between Leeds Arena and Newcastle Arena.
