The Gazette is finished the Northern Echo is the go to paper/website for Boro news

Theres no aggression, I thought she must have been a female player. She's seems to know here stuff but is she needed every week why not give other people a turn.

hello, saw this yesterday so thought i would address it (as soon as my account got approved lol)

the bbc want to embrace podcasting a lot more - they’ve noticed the success of them and are jumping onboard the trend. that said, i was reached out to by them to be a part of their own boro podcast series called ‘red alert’ - that’s why i’m on there after games.

they don’t claim me to be an expert nor do i claim to be one myself. i’m just a fan giving my view, but i think because i’m a podcaster i was a good fit for, well… their podcast. as for ‘giving others a go’, i personally would welcome that as a rotational feature, but don’t forget - the fans phone-in has been a staple of bbc tees for more than a decade - isn’t that ‘giving others a go’?

it’s a massive opportunity for me to be on the bbc. appreciate the nice comments and feedback from people on here 🙏

No Dana it is not the same thing at all.
You are asked or offer your opinion on things throughout the entire broadcast; the callers get a much more limited input - and critics of the club are quickly rounded on or closed down.
I'd have much greater understanding if Rob was a regular on BBC Tees match broadcasts, but appreciate he is very much the fan and loves his matchday experience home and away.

BBC Tees allow criticism of players and manager, but never the club. It is clearly the brief.

Just noticed this thread from earlier in the season.

I’d be interested to know whether Dana is now contracted to the BBC for this slot and remunerated for her time or whether she is providing her time for free as a fan as the callers to the programme she refers to do. Either way, it is a good opportunity for Dana to project herself as a podcaster and potential broadcaster for the future. I wish her every success if that is her direction of travel, but as a long standing paying customer and fan, I feel I should know any potential conflicts of interest that there may be when listening in as I journey home.

I would entirely agree with Indeedido’s comments that the BBC Tees sport crew allow criticism of players and managers, (sometimes with a heavy dose of cynicism and occasional sarcasm from Addison & Maddison) but when any criticism is aimed at the club or chairman, then i suspect it rarely if ever gets heard, but when any mild comment slips through it is seemingly quickly glossed over.

Texts, emails and whats apps are understandably to some degree sanitised due to language, but having sent occasional messages in myself, I know only some parts of the content are read out on air, even when politely put, criticism of the club or chairman are edited, sanitised or omitted entirely. I can accept that in some cases it will be with good cause and to avoid libel/slander laws (fair enough) but not all surely, and I know from my own experience my occasional critical comments on club and its methods were fit to air but in part omitted.

Give over 🤣

Gazette has been a shambles for a while. Reporting is second rate, and more often than not they turn a blind eye to the illicit activities of some high profile folk.

I enjoy listening to Dana! It's great to have an actual fan on air for a prolonged period of time. The phone ins is full of people complaining no matter the bloody score anyway haha 😆 I find her to be really knowledgeable and Boro Breakdown is always great.
Can't believe people actually moan about her getting an opportunity to be on the radio

I rarely listen to post match phone ins; I'm never near a radio after home matches, and I don't live in the radio tees area for away matches.

So, are they still unrelentingly negative? What do people find to be soo disappointed by nowadays?

Gazette website is terrible, so many adverts popping up causing it to reload itself and it crashes more often than it works. I won’t click on any gazette or mirror group links anymore it’s just not worth the hassle.

There is a couple of callers who seems to ring up to wind up Maddo. They love to be critical, if fact one seemed to take pride in it.

The BBC have to be a bit careful with MFC as they rely a lot the club for access to games and news.

On Fridays the BBC are given two free tickets to give away in a competition - its gets people listening to the BBC Tees. If I was struggling for cash to buy a couple of tickets I would be ringing in. Its an example of both organisations feeding off each other in a positive way. I am not been criticial, I think its positive, but occasionally the Club could be protected from criticism (slighly high walk up ticket prices).

I don't know anyone who works for the EG, but one of my best mates used to write for the Leicester Mercury, who have the same owners.

I've been in the main office. There is a large screen showing how many people were looking at each online story at any one moment. It was arranged in league table format, so you could see stories rise and fall. The culture, apparently, was all that mattered was getting your story as high up that board as possible. Essentially, it reduced journalism to a search for clickbait.

Whether this approach presides at the EG, I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Am afraid you are all a bit behind the times. Gazette/Teesside Live along with all Reach newspapers has no office. The handful of journalists work entirely from home and now without an editor.
It must be exveptionally difficult to work in those circumstances, almost without support.

Maybe so; thinking back, that was the weekend Jordan Rhodes scored those 2 late goals at Bolton, so it was a while ago.

I agree, it is almost like the paper will or is ceasing to exist before our very eyes, other than as a front to fool the proletariat 👀

I have worked extensively with Reach plc. There is absolutely nothing “local” about the offering whatsoever. It is a huge company whose role is to provide the same kind of service to multiple locations across the country, solely fuelled by advertising revenue. Hence why every headline now says something like “Boro playing well, largely down to TWO reasons” for which you’re supposed to click to reveal the two reasons, which instead of being anything interesting, are things like “will to win” and “scoring plenty of goals”.

Whilst I have nothing personal against Craig or any of the writers now, they’re just trying to make ends meet and do their job, it is nothing like the offering of the days of Tallentire/Vickers/Paylor etc. The Gazette (and most publications like it) is dead.

But some would not like that widely known so shush now 😉
