We are screening The Game of Their Lives at Base Camp at 7pm Thursday 25th -free - donations welcomed.
This is the story and build up to North Korea's victory over pre World Cup favourites Italy at Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough.
I have invited organisers of 2002 North Korean visit to England and Middlesbrough to tell the incredible tale of just how they managed to get 7 veterans of the 1966 World Cup out of North Korea and across the world to Middlesbrough. And then got them safely home again behind the Bamboo Curtain.
Stick it in your diary.

We will hopefully have a load of photos and interesting memorabilia from the North Korean team tour of 2002 that took in Houses of Parliament and the Foreign Office as well as guests of honour at an England game and the Riverside and of course a return to Ayresome Park and even tea at my house.

If you have seen the film before you will know that it features rare archive footage of the North Korean team out and about in Middlesbrough in 1966. Quite rare to see central Middlesbrough in the 1960s.

Yep and as I said we will hear for the first time how and why the 7 surviving players were able to travel to Middlesbrough in 2002 and return again.
There are a few secrets here that I cannot type.

Event is free but you can book your seat - always a good idea in these uncertain times and lets the venue know what to expect on the night.

I have been assembling lots of photos that we can hopefully use as well as showing the film and hearing how on earth the film crew managed to get the N Korean footballers out of Korea into Britain and back again in 2002.

Tomorrow evening at Base Camp.

This week messages of friendship were recorded from the Mayor of Middlesbrough to the North Korean heroes of 1966.
The players were so humbled that the people of Teesside and the then mayor took them to their hearts in the World Cup and then again on their return in 2002.
Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow evening when there will also be lots of interesting photos and memorabilia and also no doubt interesting memories to be explored.
