Just watched the match in full again. For the first 20 minutes we had most of the ball, passed it around well, and dictated the tempo. They had a couple of speculative efforts from range, but offered nothing else. In that first 20 minutes O'Nien's push on Crooks was definitely a penalty, and Neil's tackle on Coburn was a borderline red. A better ref, or VAR, would have given both.
Then on 20 mins, Coburn is tackled in midfield, possible foul but nothing is given, Patrick Roberts gets the ball and makes his mazy run and shot which is saved. That was their best chance in the entire game. That brought them to life (briefly) as they dominated play for the next 5 minutes (20th -25th mins). Shortly after that we hit the post with a scrambled effort and after that its back to us dictating the tempo, and apart from them having a couple of freekicks in dangerous areas (which we defended well), we were not troubled at all for the rest of the half.
All in all I'm pretty sure if it'd stayed 11 v 11 we would have still won it , maybe 1-0, or 2-0, as at 11 v 11 we were the better team, and played the better football. Carrick outwitted Mogga as they were reacting to our play in that first half and barely imposing themselves on us at all. Clarke and Roberts offered very little as our tactics in that first half were spot on.
2nd half was a walkover and a pleasure to re-watch (y) (y) (y) (y)
