Is he? Glad hes got a job i football. Last time I looked he was working in Insurance I think.

Stuart Ripley is a bit similar - one of the best players we ever had

I remember going to his testimonial, and think I also went to Junior Reds with his son. Could the Newcastle link (both playing and scouting) mean he's not as fondly remembered as perhaps he might have been ?

Didn't he also survive a horrible car crash in the Tyne Tunnel that killed his dad ?

He makes my favourite team and Erimus74’s too I’m sure I would think those lucky enough to have witnessed Charltons Champions would mostly agree it was their favourite team and Millsy was a huge part its success.

Totally agree coluka, excellent player in our best ever team & our best era, IMHO mind

Scored 2 hattricks in his Boro career, came through the ranks with another great, the late Willie Maddren
Willie later became manager & brought Millsy back to the Boro, 1984-85 season, he scored 15 goals for us, I think, which certainly played a big, big part in us staying up

Bobby Murdoch would say Millsy made him look good because he always got on the end of his through balls. Bobby was doing himself down a bit with that comment but I know what he was getting at.

I used to play footy on the back field in Marton Manor with Mills' son back in the early 1990s. He was a good player, very tricky, but I assume he never made it anywhere in the professional game.

Him and John Craggs used have right barneys about throw ins n front of the Chicken run. The ball would go out and Millsy would try and take a quick throw only to be stopped by Craggs. He would often chuck the ball away mouthing some obscenity.
Great player for the Boro. Best game when we demolished Arsenal in the F A cup.

He was ahead of his time. 'Tracking back' and 'pressing' were not considered by fans to be an essential part of a striker's game. Nowadays they are obsessed with it.

I remember going to that match ... my dad used his friend's season tickets for us both. It was my first time in the "posh" seats!

I'd forgotten the hattrick, and had just remembered it as a battle between Andy Gray and Willie Maddren.

One of his son's is a teacher at Green Lane Primary school.

I didn't know he had more than one son and to be honest I couldn't even tell you his first name as we all just called him Millsy when playing footy! 🤣

He had great dribbling ability and used to regularly go on mazy runs taking on a number of players in his fancy Puma Kings! Hopefully he continued playing at some level.
