The first goal

brilliant as it was from Willock, completely shows the problems with either our tactics or personnel.

Willock picked the ball up in his own half, he wasnt out wide, but drove through the centre of our midfield with the only challenges coming from our right wingback and right centre half. Where was Howson? where was crooks? Where was the centre back coming out to face up to him (considering he ran from his own half the tackles were from the wrong side).

It was just like Preston. We cannot go away from home and play like that.

Howson is a massive plus in there against teams who attack us with balls on the ground, turning defence into attack. However other than Huddersfield, it doesn't work often enough.

Away from home we need a more athletic, destructive and defensive minded midfielder or a replacement who can do what Tav did. Tavs work rate and pace bailed us out on so many occasions and it was obvious to see when he moved to wingback that the midfield didn't work last season.

I know I sound like a broken record but he shouldn't have been allowed to leave without some kind of replacement being brought in, there are too many points at stake.

Great strike from Willock though.

That goal was down to individual errors, not tactics. We had two chances to stop him and failed.

We seem to allow opposition players to get goal side far too easily. I don't know if that's team instructions to try and win the ball back quickly or what, but Dijksteel in particular could easily have just stood him up. Instead tries to steal the ball of him and ends up wrong side where his only choice was to foul him or let him get his shot away.

Really naive defending.

But Howson is our best player according to 95% of this board...we're miles away from having a team good enough to go up...we'll finish 9-10th.

Second goal was a very obvious push on Steffen and from Wilders comments the ref saw it.
Without that goal we stood a good chance of winning that game

Jones will have to learn to tackle from the front not the back, (come on coaches, this is not the first time), but Dijksteel has to carry the bulk of the blame for really weak defending. Wilder was quite scathing in his post-match comments referring to the fact he has only one yellow card in two years - in other words if you can't stop him legally then take one for the team.

We need a decent DM now whether or not that’s Choudry or whomever we need a tackler — non of our midfielders have a decent tackle in them but I’m also embarrassed to say neither can Djksteel!!

I'm not blaming Jones and Dijksteel particularly, they were at fault individually, but the system is at fault. If at any point a Boro player faced up to willock he wouldn't have scored. There was no midfielder in a position where there should be one. Failing that, playing 3 centre backs should mean Lenihan can come out and one of the others drop off onto his man, instead somehow Dijksteel ends up tackling from the wrong side. Teams have worked us out and turned using attacking centre backs into a weakness.

Howson was on him but got wrong side of him allowing him to drive into that shooting position. Great strike, great goal.

They were all the wrong side, but he picked the ball up in his own half. Would only be excusable if it happened late in a game that we were chasing, not early in a game when we should be fighting for the right to eventually play open attacking football.

Naive all round.

I not sure its about sides working us out - to me its more individuals not been strong anbd clever enough to block threats. I also thought in the first half we brought presure on ourselves from not being attacking enough. Notice the differenence in the second half when we were more positive and more agressive. QPR had no chances in the first 25 minutes of the second half and probably only 2 in the whole of the second half (one of which was a Lumleyesque presentation from Steffan). We start games too cautiously for me away from home and it does not suit us.

Every goal I have seen where the player runs deep from his half ( apart from breakaways) and goes onto score usually should have had a stopping tackle at some point, usually the player is bouncing of the covering players and is carrying on until thee next non tackle and then bounces of that player and so on, I seen it with Maradona and Johnny Hendrie amongst others, it happened yesterday it may never happen again to our team( I hope) this season.

Not with Watmore up front we didn't = once Akpom came on it was a different story (He's not the Akpom I remember!)
