The end?

Apparently, part of the problem is that a large number of contract soldiers are out of contract very soon, so a lot of gaps need to be filled. There's also the matter of trying to keep the Stans in order (not going too well given the Kazaks' love in with Europe and China). Enough elite units have walked away to leave the Russian military with a serious headache. As for all the threatening rhetoric, that has been going on since February. Putin's speech was measured by comparison with some of the insane shyte that Lavrov and Medvedev were coming out with.

I'm still hopeful that it will end soon with Putin eating sardines in Antalya.

Whatever the **** Putin plans to do , it is imperative the west :

- continues to arm Ukraine to the full extent it can
- give Ukraine everything it needs to cope in the colder climate

It is vital the west doesn’t cower to that fascist scum. If we don’t call putins bluff on the nukes then our enemies will continue to use this vile rhetoric to try and get what they want

Just come across this thread... Interesting read. As any of what is written here come true?? I refuse to watch the news, so I am just curious about all the info given on here.

yeah some very interesting stuff on here I have no idea how true it is and if the OP has a friend in the know, or if he just searching other sources of news other that the main stream media such as twitter , youtube etc and coming up with his own theories, some of it sounds pretty convincing whilst other stuff is bat sh$t crazy i.e. the goat but who knows any more what is true ...who would think 12 months ago they would be shelling a nuclear power plant

Said it before, back a bear into a corner and he'll turn on you.

If it's a choice of going nuclear and saving his own skin or getting an icepic in his ear I have no doubt what Putin will do.

And to suggest his nuclear capability has gone away due to poor maintenance..... FFS.

He wouldn't drop a nuke on the States, he'd send them our way and the Amercans would do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
This

Well, it’s not really .

He won’t launch there first because they have nukes , for fear they will get them back . He won’t here either , as we have nukes. We will also fire back ( wouldn’t if corbyn was pm but that’s another topic for another thread)

If nukes are used , it’s on Ukraine . But then , Russia will become truly isolated if they did . China and India would drop them like a bad habit if they used nukes

Even on Ukraine , it wouldn’t achieve anything . West Ukraine he hits and fallout could hit nato and drag nato into Ukraine as they would view it as a declaration of war. East Ukraine the fallout could go into Russia. Launching a nuke isn’t going to change the course of the war for Putin

I'm no fan of Corbyn at all but that is just bollox.

The US allegedly have told Russia that if they use nukes in Ukraine they would launch missiles on Russia. If true I would imagine that would put Vlad off too.

I'd like to think that I'm pretty 'middle of the road' regarding politics.
I'm a left-leaning local business owner.
Perhaps he was misreported (certainly wouldn't surprise me) but the suggestion that Corbyn would never use nuclear weapons seemed a silly stance.

When asked Corbyn-on-TV
He talks and talks of an 'ideal world' scenario when a simple 'of course we'd use it if threatened' would have done the job.

This on top of Labour's tortuous position on Brexit.
I know it was difficult but all that stuff about Corbyn actually being pro-Brexit but refusing to admit to it was awful.
The average reading age in the UK is said to be twelve years old.
I think he just might have got into power and done some good if he just didn't miss so many 'open goals'.

Sorry for going off on a tangent......but the last 7 or so years of UKs politics has left me exasperated.

I know what you mean, I'm definitely very left leaning but firmly believe in having a nuclear deterant and of course using it if we ultimately had to. Corbyn made a mess of that.

The Tories are generally much much better at saying what they need to in order to gain power.

People need to realise there is a difference as to what Corbyn would have liked to happen to what would actually happen.

If we had PM Corbyn a vote in the HoC would never have passed to remove our nuclear threat. He also would have been under no illusions that if we were launched upon he would be expected to have launched back.

But he was never going to be PM so to even bring it up on here is plain daft. Especially with the adage that it is for another thread.

BACK ON THREAD

It will be interesting to see what happens when the referendums are concluded and obviously go the way of Russia. Not sure how he will respond as he has few troops.

Well, it isn’t , because :

- he refused to answer if he would retaliate in an actual interview . I did watch it .
- he’s made it well known he’s anti nuclear weapons

There is no room to dodge the question . Failure to answer yes to retaliating is a massive red flag in itself

It's so sad.
The guy meant well but was so naive and clumsy.
Never thought I'd see places such as Blythe and Hartlepool vote in a Conservative MP.
But I can understand why they did it.

Spoiled my vote myself.
Living in Blyth Valley there is no understanding as to why it turned Tory. None whatsoever. Its a hugely deprived area and it wasn't because of Corbyn that it turned blue.

There must be reasons why Blyth and others turned blue.
I'd suggest a very feeble 'marmite' opposition leader may well have been a big reason - people were left with nowhere to go.

Speaking personally, I was absolutely for nuclear disarmament and would have fully supported the UK dropping trident and our complete nuclear deterrent. I was never a big Corbyn fan (but would vote for him and much rather have him over the absolutely atrocious excuse for politicians the tories have bestowed upon us for over a decade even if I think the media would have mullered him regardless, but I digress…) but his anti-nuclear stance, whether real or imagined, certainly appealed to me.

However, Russia has shown why a nuclear deterrent is sadly a very important part of our defence… I still support nuclear disarmament, but it has to be a joint effort and the UK making the first move, at least for now, is not something I think would be wise (and it isn’t going to happen anyway!)

There's also Brexit though. A famously charismatic PM whose chief slogan was Get Brexit Done was always going to appeal to Brexit-voting towns.

As far as national anthems go it’s pretty damn good, although this was quite funny when they mistakenly played the USSR anthem instead of the Russian one at a rugby game, a few of them still belted it out!
