The Definitive Boro Home Shirt

There is very little that is iconic about our club.
The shirt/strip should be.

Red shirt with white chest band and trim.
Red short with white trim.
Red socks with white trim.

Nobody other than us plays in that strip.
1974-76 strips and 2004-05 were those strips
That strip design has covered those 2 periods of indisputably our best teams and highest league performances of the last 69 years.
1973-75. 1975-76 2004-05

I would keep that template for away strip and change the colours.
Keep the strips fresh by changing the type of trim, the collar.

The thing I hate most is white shorts, we look like a knock off Man U/Bristol City/Charlton/Barnsley/Forest and uncle Tom Cobley and all.

The chest band massively differentiates us from Liverpool as does the shade of our red.

A Club should have a strong unique image. This kit does just that.

It doesn't take a lot to make even the worst of our most recent kits actually pretty good. For example the 16-17 kit is infinitely better with red shorts and no blue.

Should be red shorts, red socks and a simple black/white sponsorship logo. A band should be a regular, with the occasional deviation to boost sales and keep things fresh if needed. I'd have a band for 8 out of 10 seasons, with 1 season of all red and 1 with a shoulder sash.

No yokes, no pin stripes and no Venetian blinds.

2016-17 is truly, truly awful, IMHO mind, whoever thought that up & whoever gave it the ok want a good look at themselves & never put in that position again 😔

Always prefer red shorts, sets the band in the shirt off better. Otherwise too much white for me!

I think when it comes to kit preferences we are all probably influenced by the first kit we owned or the kit they were wearing when we first started watching the Boro.

It was the Dickens (first time around) and Heritage Hampers kits that were around when I can first remember going, so that's probably why I favour white shorts. Interesting looking at that pic how often we've gone for the all red look though, more often than I would have thought.

And through our most successful spells in the top flight too.
We do better red shirts white band, red shorts.

I think you're right!

White Shorts 1899-1966 (67 years)
Red Shorts 1966-1982 (16 years)
White Shorts 1982-2000 (18 years)
Red Shorts 2000-2009 (9 years)
then from 2009 to 2020 we've had a mix of 6 seasons white and 5 seasons red in the following order:
White
White
Red
Red
Red
White
Red (promotion)
White (big mistake)
Red
White
White

twas the eighties when young newyddion first discovered the magical heartache.

22 years of blue shorts
92 years of white shorts (92 years of hurt)
30 years of red shorts

17 Seasons of white band
12 seasons of white band and red shorts
10 seasons of white band, red shorts and red socks (one of them was ruined by the green wine gum)

The most popular (according to fmttm) and most successful combination (according to fact)

15 years of Errea - 5 seasons
15 seasons of Adidas - 2 seasons (one was the wine gum)
5 seasons of Hummel - they haven't done it yet..

The definitive home boro shirt could well be Errea 2004-2007

OFFICIAL BRING BACK ERREA THREAD?

I'll go with that, even though I started going late 1971 the 73-74 season was such an awesome, unforgettable season with the iconic home & away strip that it'll live with me forever & as my favourite too
