The Definitive Boro Home Shirt

Boro used to say that when they sold shirts with white chest band 2 seasons in a row that sales dropped massively the 2nd season.
So tinker with detail round the edges then. You don’t see other clubs chop and change iconic and instantly recognisable strip designs.

As a side point, in these days of ‘product branding’ (excuse me while I vomit) then we absolutely should utilise an instantly recognisable USP to build the ‘brand’ (sorry, I’m going to vomit again).

For me our worst home strips 1998-99, 1999-2000 & 2015-15 were awful & as a collector I refused to buy them because, well basically, what did they have to do with any of our home shirts, truly awful, but I had to bite the bullet & have since aquired to of those 3, how come they go from excellent, to nice, to fine to horrific

I guess it’s all subjective but we have had some stinkers. All the more reason to stick to the white band/hoop and blue/black stripes etc.
El Guapo, it certainly is, all about opinions & choice, but yes one thing most of us agree with is keeping the white chest band (y)

That is the point - they used to say that when they tinkered with the design - the numbers of buyers dropped considerably. That number would only go up when there was a very different design or different manufacturer etc.

Fair enough Rob, but who designed the one when we went in to the PL an 8 year old kid, that was absoutly awful

BTW Rob, you passed me this morning out running, I was walking past the cemetery gates, heading towards Burlam Road, which you turned down, you jogged passed me over the road & crossed infront of me when you passed, I was going to shout but thought better of it

Do Juventus change their black and white stripes, or Inter their blue/black? Or do Ajax change their single wide red stripe? Or Boca juniors their orange chest band or River Plate their red sash? Celtic their green/white hoops? No. Are they all instantly recognisable? Yes. Can you identify a fleetwood town top in an instant? No.
